How Pokémon Unite's New Update Changes Blissey | Screen Rant

Pokémon Unite's Blissey may have been strong before, but a new update for the pocket monster MOBA is making the support character even more powerful. As with any MOBA, Pokémon Unite's balance ebbs and flows as players learn more about the various characters, their playstyles, and their synergies. But the game's latest update for Blissey is nothing but good news for fans of the pink powerhouse.

By all accounts, the free-to-play Pokémon Unite seems to have found an audience. Updates buffing and nerfing various characters and items have happened regularly since the game launched on Nintendo Switch in July, and the mobile version of the game, which will support cross-play between platforms, is coming on September 22. New Pokémon like Blastoise have recently made their way to the game as well, ensuring that players always have something new to look forward to in Nintendo's casual-friendly MOBA.

For players who love Blissey, the game's latest update, which also applies various bug fixes and shop updates, is certainly worth celebrating. Already one of the strongest support characters in Pokémon Unite, Blissey's new buffs are making a good character even better. Here's what's changing, and why Blissey mains have a lot to be excited about.

Three major improvements and buffs have come to Pokémon Unite's Blissey (who evolves from Chansey at level 4) as part of Pokémon Unite's September 8 update. First, is an increase to the character's Special Defense, reducing the damage Blissey will receive from Special attacks. The other changes come as part of Blissey's Safeguard ability, which is getting an across the board upgrade. The move will now remove all status conditions from both the user and a designated teammate, and grants both players a shield. While the shields are active, each Pokémon is immune to hindrance effects like sleep and stun. Safeguard is also having its area of effect increased and its cooldown decreased. Safeguard+, the abilities upgrade which can be unlocked at level 12, will also have its shield nullify more damage.

Blissey's ability to heal and protect allies, along with being fairly tanky and difficult to kill itself, already makes the character a strong pick when it comes to team-battle skirmishes. These new changes will only make it so Blissey is even more effective in team fights, providing more buffs and boons to those lucky enough to have a Blissey on their team. Usually, a developer only buffs a character that seems to be struggling in the meta of the moment or maybe is not picked as often as other similar characters. Blissey already fills an important role many other characters don't, making the Pokémon always in-demand in a way many others aren't. It's curious then why developer TiMi Studio Group went ahead and buffed Blissey not just a little, but by a lot. The only reasoning offered in the game's patch notes is that "changes are being made to some Pokémon stats and moves to adjust the balance of Unite Battles." Perhaps there are stats related to the character's pick rates and win rates players simply aren't aware of, but regardless, it's a good time to be a Blissey player.

Multiple new Pokémon are set to be introduced to the game in the coming weeks and months, so perhaps Blissey's buffs are to help pave the way for future updates. Mamoswine and Sylveon have been confirmed to be coming to Pokémon Unite, though they don't currently have a release date. Their role types are also unknown, but it's possible one of them could be a support character, which would provide some reasoning behind the recent Blissey update. Whatever the reason, Blissey is strong and just got stronger, so players should enjoy all the buffs while they can, in case TiMi decides the character could use a batch of nerfs next time around.
