Gossip Girl: 10 Reasons Why Blair Was The True Queen B Of The Show

Blair and Serena are synonymous with Gossip Girl, and with good reason - the frenemies rule the Upper East Side, and often even feud over it. The two ladies dominate screens, but Leighton Meester's Blair Waldorf sometimes outshines Serena Van der Woodsen during the show with her witty repartee, intriguing personality, and her journey towards being the greatest version of herself.

Blair's fairytale romances and her charmed life made fans gravitate towards her, and the eternal tussle between which affluent lady was the protagonist of the show ended with the Queen B winning the Upper East Side, as always.

10 Her Sense Of Style

The Queen B had a wardrobe that was fit for the title. Her looks were a mix of classic, preppy and sophisticated pieces that were every fashionista's envy. Be it vintage sailor dresses for everyday wear, couture gowns for prom, or the bevy of stunning overcoats from top designers - Blair's dress sense made heads turn.

This mature and well thought-out closet made her a power character on the show, as she was always put together and well-dressed for every occasion, whereas other characters had looks that were signature, but not as cohesive.

9 Her Ambition

Despite being a child of privilege, Blair didn't want things handed to her. Going into fashion would have been supremely easy for her - she just had to ride her mother's wave of success - but she chose the harder way up the ladder, and proved herself worthy of Eleanor Waldorf too.

She got an internship at W Magazine, and subsequently even landed a job, which was unheard of for an intern. She worked very hard to gain entry into the most exclusive clubs, sororities, and societies that would get her the status and power that she craved in life. Her drive to achieve was second to none on the show, and her peers didn't put in half the effort she did to fulfil her dreams.

8 She Always Got The Prince(s)

Nobody but royalty could be fit for the Queen, and she floored monarchs from across the globe. Her magnetic presence and unique personality attracted Lord Marcus Beaton in season 2, and then Prince Louis Grimaldi in season 4 when she was staring at beautiful artwork in a museum in Paris.

Even though her marriage to Louis was doomed, Blair exuded main character energy and romanced the princes of the world. Even Nate Archibald and Chuck Bass were akin to high society royalty, and Blair's romantic history was enviable, as each love affair was one to remember.

7 She Was Incredibly Brainy

Not only was Blair one of the most beautiful and wealthiest of the Upper East Side, but also one of the most intelligent beings in Manhattan. Academically, she had perfect scores at Constance Billard School, along with a long list of extra curricular activities that made her curriculum vitae shine. She performed effortlessly well in college too, and was the smartest amongst her peers.

Besides this, she was very intuitive, a natural problem-solver, and she could read people like a book. Her innate brilliance made her extremely sharp, which was perhaps the reason why she was so good at scheming and plotting. In fact, the only reason she lost her Yale admission was because she went a bit too far with the plotting, not because she wasn't smart enough.

6 She Was A Nuanced Character

The enigma of Blair Waldorf lay in the complexity of her character. She was never one dimensional or predictable. While she had a penchant for cooking up elaborate plots as a means to her grand ends and being ruthless in general, Blair could surprise audiences with her softness and affection which she showed over a period of time.

She cared deeply for her loved ones - mainly Chuck, Serena, Cyrus, and her mother - and she let her guard down at the most surprising moments which made her an interesting character to watch. She protected Serena in Columbia when she dated Colin, supported Chuck after Bart's first death, and even warmed up to Dan, astonishingly.

5 Her Romance Raptured Audiences

For better or for worse, fans love Blair for her epic saga with Chuck, which started in season 1 and went on till the very end of Gossip Girl. "Chair" or Chuck and Blair had fans extremely invested: they both were devilishly clever people, who had a deliciously complicated romance (with twisted roleplay) which overcame all obstacles to end in happiness.

The slow burn affair became the main focus of the show, and audiences were rooting for them till the last season. Chuck and Blair got together and broke up for many reasons: Chuck cheated on her, she left him to make a name for herself, and she found a real life prince, amongst others, but they found their way back. Blair even had the epic decision to make between Nate and Chuck at a point.

4 Her Self Love And Dignity

Blair Waldorf was an overachiever and a perfectionist, but she didn't love herself very much to begin with, which led to an eating disorder. The overarching essence of all of her story arcs was rooted in the quest for self love and being cognizant of her own worth.

She had the love of Chuck Bass, a very powerful man, but she was not happy being a trophy girlfriend or wife. She wanted to chart her own path in life, make something of herself, and then stand shoulder to shoulder with Chuck, as an equal. Blair even stopped dating Chuck to focus on her internship at W Magazine in season 4. This pursuit of greatness was missing from the other Upper East Siders.

3 Her Home

The Waldorfs lived in utter luxury, and Blair's part of the house was the right combination of magical and opulent. The winding steps up to her bedroom were reminiscent of a fairytale tower, and Dorota was always at the bottom of the stairs, fending off all of Blair's potential suitors, almost always Chuck Bass.

A main protagonist's living space should be as unique as them, and reflect their personas, and Blair's home checked all these points. Even Serena eventually lived in Blair's beautiful home when she joined Columbia.

2 Her Serious Story Arcs

Gossip Girl was by no means a serious show, and Blair had her fair share of superficial and inconsequential story lines, but her character also tackled a host of very real situations. She dealt with low self worth, big business deals, handling her own business, building a career, mental health problems, and societal issues like dowry with Prince Louis.

In comparison, Serena's story arcs were very often problems that she had created herself, her past bad behavior coming to haunt her, and some of her questionable friends being troublesome (like when Georgina blackmailed her and Juliet tried to frame her to avenge her brother). Fans could relate to Blair's bigger plotlines a lot more.

1 Her Real Personality

No other character was better developed than Blair's on Gossip Girl. She had a well-rounded personality - her love for old world Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn, classic literature, and high fashion was documented succinctly through the series, through dream sequences inspired by Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Breakfast at Tiffany's and her inspired dressing.

At the same time, Blair loved high fashion, and depended wholly on modern technology despite her penchant for all things vintage. Blair was a fleshed out character in every way possible.
