Cohost of Celebrity IOU: Joyride, Cristy Lee, is opening up about Ant Anstead and Renee Zellweger meeting for the first time on set. Rumors began to swirl about Ant and Renee's relationship after multiple news outlets reported the random coupling. Many thought the gossip wasn't true until it was confirmed that Renee would be appearing on his new show on Discovery+. The relationship was so out of the blue because Ant had recently announced his divorce from Christina Haack, his wife of two years.
Ant seemed to move on quite quickly despite having such a whirlwind romance with Christina. The former couple married after more than a year of dating and welcomed their son, Hudson, after less than a year of marriage. However, what seemed like the perfect relationship was actually far from it as Christina filed for divorce a year after their son was born. A month after Ant and Renee's rumored relationship, Christina and Ant were able to finalize their divorce.
In a new interview with People, the car guru opened up about how Ant and Renee met for the first time on set. "It was a busy day," Cristy told the news outlet while promoting the new Discovery+ series she cohosts with Ant, who went Instagram official with Renee. "Seriously, we had such an insane shoot schedule with so much stuff going on." She added, "If there was magic brewing up between the two of them, it probably didn't happen in that exact moment." The motor specialist and the actress clearly had some sparks flying on that day as the two began dating soon after filming Renee's episode. Cristy may have not seen it due to the show's hectic schedule, but Ant and Renee knew there was a spark between them.
The cohost didn't see her costar falling for the Oscar winner, but the viewers will. In one of the scenes from the episode, the 42-year-old got a chance to work with only Renee, who attended a Gala with Ant, as he taught her how to doing some welding and grinding on one of the two cars they restored. The 52-year-old is restoring these cars as a thank you gift for Jerome and Jerald, the caregivers who looked after her late publicist, Nanci Ryder, as she battled ALS. "How's that feeling back there? Sparks flying in your face!" Renee joked with Ant as she began sawing through metal. He replied, "I know. I kind of like it." Even Cristy enjoyed working with Renee on the project. "Renée was awesome," she said of the actress. "It was obvious she was a car person [...] I definitely had that connection right away, just talking about women that love cars and know about cars."
Ant, who finalized his divorce with Christina in June, wasn't the only one who was charmed by Renee on the set of Celebrity IOU: Joyride so was Cristy. While she didn't see Ant and Renee have the immediate sparks they so clearly had, she isn't surprised since Renee is such a lovely person. Ant and Renee's relationship would be their final one.
