Animal Crossing Player Adds Authentic Rice Paddy To Their Island

A player of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has designed the perfect rice paddy, bringing rice fields to their island with an authentic flair. The Nintendo hit allows players to bring their dream creations to life using a variety of in-game tools, with creative players making everything from restaurants to Studio Ghibli recreations in Animal Crossing.

Once the early game loop of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is complete, players are able to access the game's full suite of design tools including terraforming abilities, which allow players to carve out their islands. Terraforming adds cliff-building features, as well as the option to create water areas such as rivers, lakes, and ponds to liven up dull islands. Terraforming can take island designs to new heights, giving users the freedom to reshape their flat lands to suit almost any design imaginable. Using Animal Crossing's design and terraforming options, creative players have previously designed everything from winter wonderlands to The Legend of Zelda's Hyrule map.

Redditor _aLine_ has impressed the Animal Crossing subreddit with their beautiful rice field build. The completed look features small rectangular terraformed areas surrounded by water. Each space is its own individual field of "rice," emulated with the game's weeds. The build is decorated simply, using just a bug in a cage and a few planted bushes, with no custom content added. The Reddit video giving a tour of the rice paddy has seen over 5,000 upvotes on Reddit at the time of writing, with many praising the creator's intuitive and clever design.

If any Animal Crossing players are looking to build their own island rice paddy, the look is simple enough to recreate. After plotting out the land for the rice fields and terraforming the surrounding water areas, players need to lay down the Dark Dirt Path to emulate recently-tilled soil, and plant weeds on top. Unfortunately, having too many weeds does bring down the Island Rating score, so those looking to keep their five-star rating might benefit from fake weeds achieved through custom design pathways.

While Animal Crossing does allow players to plant flowers, trees, and pumpkins, rice isn't available in the game. Pumpkins were added to Animal Crossing last year, with players able to plant and grow pumpkins in a range of colors. With growable fruit and vegetable options lacking, savvy creators have found ways to use in-game items disguised as vegetables for farm islands, or for Animal Crossing vegetable patches. Nintendo hasn't confirmed whether or not new growables will be introduced in future updates.
