The Voice: Blake & Gwen's Marriage License Hints At July 4 Wedding

The Voice coaches and engaged couple Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have applied for a marriage license, with a wedding likely to happen over Independence Day weekend. The soon-to-be-married couple first met on the set of The Voice when the No Doubt singer joined the coaching panel for season 7 in 2014. They didn't start dating, though, until a year later during her second season on the show. Rumors of an engagement and wedding have followed them for quite a while, but they did end up getting engaged five years after their relationship began, in the fall of 2020. Shelton proposed to Stefani just over a week after the premiere of The Voice season 19, which is the most recent season Stefani appeared in and the season she finally won the show with her artist Carter Rubin.

Stefani has three children from her marriage to Gavin Rossdale. Kingston, Zuma and Apollo were born in 2006, 2008 and 2014, respectively. The Voice coach and Bush lead singer got married in 2002 but separated in 2015, a year and a half after Apollo was born. The marriage legally ended in the spring of 2016. It was only three months after Stefani filed for divorce that she and Shelton started dating.

Now Stefani and Shelton are on the verge of getting married. TMZ is reporting that the couple has applied for a marriage license. According to Oklahoma law, the license is valid for 10 days. Since they filed for the license on June 29, that means it expires on July 9. Rumor has it they will hold their wedding over the July 4 holiday weekend.

The wedding is reportedly set for Saturday, which is the day before Independence Day. The Voice coaches will exchange vows in an outdoor chapel on Shelton's ranch, weather permitting. They have apparently sent a private plane to fly Stefani's family from California to Oklahoma. Stefani's sons are currently in the South Central state with their mother and soon-to-be step-father.

While not confirmed, hosting a smaller wedding might be a result of the pandemic. Stefani has spoken in the past about planning for a more simple wedding this time around. It's possible the couple didn't want to wait until next year when larger gatherings will be more common in the country. The small guest list is in complete contrast to Stefani and Rossdale's wedding, which was held in London. Back in 2002, over 100 people were in attendance. When asked earlier this year on Today whether he envisions a quiet life with Stefani at some point, he said, "I hope that's not too far down the road." So while it's unknown if Stefani will ever come back to The Voice, or if Shelton has plans to leave the singing competition show, what is known is they are about to embark on a new journey together.
