One of the unifying aspects of every employee at Dunder Mifflin seems to be that they either hate their work or are terrible at it. While The Office is meant to represent a satirical version of the classic American workplace, it's hard to imagine a group of people who are more ill-suited to their own careers.
However, if the marginally successful Scranton, PA squad explored other options, what would work out best for them? If the characters from The Office no longer worked at their iconic paper company, what would be their ideal jobs?
10 Ryan Howard - Club Promoter
Ryan Howard started off as a relatively normal guy when he became the temp at Dunder Mifflin, but as time went on, his wilder and more aggressive side really got an opportunity to shine.
Ryan clearly loves to socialize, loves feeling like a superstar, and doesn't have any problems skirting the rules if it means that he can get the job done. A career in something along the lines of club promotion seems like it's tailor-made for his personal skills and talents, and he would undoubtedly love doing it.
9 Kelly Kapoor - Tabloid Journalist
The only thing in the world that Kelly Kapoor seems to care about besides her perennially attempting-to-escape boyfriend Ryan is celebrity gossip. Not only does she have an encyclopedic knowledge of every single thing any famous person has ever done, but she is truly invested in their personal lives more than her own.
It's actually astonishing that she never attempted to become a tabloid journalist, because writing about celebs and uncovering every bit she can about their personal lives seems like something she'd willingly do for free.
8 Andy Bernard - Wedding Singer
While Andy would also undoubtedly love to take on a job as some kind of student recruiter for Cornell, his general demeanor and overbearing nature would probably make him terrible at the job. He may be a great guy in some ways, but he's not always good at showing his best sides to other people.
And although his dreams of making it big as a singer are clearly nothing more than a fantasy, Andy's love of music and mediocre singing voice does seem to be just enough to book him gigs at weddings and sweet sixteens for the rest of his life. It seems like a gig that he would love but also be capable of doing pretty well.
7 Creed Bratton - Horror Writer
One of the few good things that Ryan may have done during his tenure at Dunder Mifflin was preventing Creed's blog from being disseminated throughout the wider world.
However, if the usually unrattled Ryan was disturbed by Creed Thoughts then perhaps there is something greater to be uncovered there. Creed is a naturally terrifying individual with a mind unlike any other, so it's actually not that difficult to imagine him becoming a prolific horror writer in the vein of Stephen King.
6 Kevin Malone - Pie Baker
Kevin Malone appears to be an accountant in name only, as it's almost unfathomable to imagine him being even remotely acceptable at his job. But as the office crew discovered, he seems to become some natural math wizard as soon as pies are involved.
Kevin clearly has no passion for accounting, but he does have a deep adoration for food. He should lean into that natural affinity and leave his post at the paper company to become a professional pie baker.
5 Angela Martin - Cat Rescue Worker
The list of Angela Martin's dislikes is much longer than her likes, and considering that the only person she seems to have any legitimate affection for is Dwight (which is cringe in its own right), she seems best suited for a job that doesn't involve other people.
One of the few things that Angela seems to have a real passion for is cats, so caring for rescues and finding them new homes seems right up her alley. The only possible downside is that she would probably find no one worthy of her cute kittens.
4 Dwight Schrute - Parking Enforcement
The only thing that Dwight has seemingly ever truly desired is authority and power over other people. The problem is, he's the last person who should be in charge of anything or anyone. But, Dwight as a parking enforcement officer seems to be the perfect medium between both worlds.
It's just enough legitimacy for him to enjoy his power tripping, but it doesn't give him the ability to actually do anything. Plus, he's probably one of the few people in the world who would actually love giving out tickets to irritated citizens.
3 Pam Beesly - Art Teacher
Pam understandably gets a lot of flack for spending years dreaming of becoming an artist, only to drop out of art school when she realizes that it's not what she really wants.
However, recognizing that the grind of being a graphic designer wasn't for her was actually the right move. Everyone who loves art isn't necessarily destined to work as an artist, but Pam's kind nature and sincere love for creation seem like an ideal fit for an art teacher.
2 Jim Halpert - Punk'd Producer
Although Jim Halpert is memorable for a lot of things, what many fans remember best about him is his ability to come up with ridiculously elaborate pranks (most often directed towards Dwight Schrute).
Jim's behavior is actually pretty childish and inappropriate all things considered, but if he had the time and money to come up with the pranks of his dreams, it would be undeniably entertaining to watch. He'd be perfectly suited for a job working as a producer on a TV series in the vein of Punk'd or Impractical Jokers.
1 Michael Scott - Dunder Mifflin Recruiter
For all of his flaws as a person, it's hard to deny that Michael Scott very genuinely loves Dunder Mifflin and all of the people that he manages, regardless of how they feel about him in return. He obviously doesn't have a knack for being anyone's manager, however he seemingly had a lot of success as a salesman.
So, what better job could Michael have than literally selling employees on Dunder Mifflin? Finding the right employees to revitalize the company he adores seems like a dream gig for Michael that he'd actually be great at.
