Midsommar Director’s New Movie Casts Michael Gandolfini & Parker Posey

Midsommar director Ari Aster’s new A24 movie Disappointment Blvd. casts Michael Gandolfini and Parker Posey among others. Aster arrived with a bang on the horror movie scene with his 2018 film Hereditary, then quickly followed up that success with 2019’s folk-horror hit Midsommar. But despite having established himself as a brand name horror director it seems Aster is ready to take a break from the genre. His upcoming project Disappointment Blvd. is described as “a decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.”

Aster’s decades-spanning seeming non-horror movie stars Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix along with Nathan Lane, Pattie Lupone, Amy Ryan and Kylie Rogers. As reported by Deadline, that already impressive ensemble has just grown by several more, with Gandolfini and Posey joining the cast alongside Stephen McKinley Henderson, Denis Ménochet, Hayley Squires and Zoe Lister-Jones.

Gandolfini of course is currently a hot name as he’s set to step into his father’s shoes and play young Tony Soprano in the upcoming prequel The Many Saints of Newark. The original Manic Pixie Dream Girl of ‘90s independent movie fame, Posey was most recently seen in the shows Lost in Space and High Fidelity. Henderson for his part is a very busy character actor who was featured in last year’s Devs and is next set to appear as Thufir Hawat in Dune. Perhaps best known for his appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Bastards, Ménochet is also in Wes Anderson’s latest The French Dispatch. Lister-Jones of course will be familiar to New Girl fans as Schmidt’s boss-turned-love-interest Fawn Moscato. Lastly, Squires was most recently seen heading up the cast of the British series Adult Material. Disappointment Blvd. does not yet have a release date.
