Warning! Spoilers for Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 below.
After the King in Black's defeat, Carnage has come back with a brand new power that connects him with the different symbiotes. Eddie Brock gained incredible powers after stopping and replacing Knull as the new King in Black. However, with a new God of Symbiote in charge, Carnage has developed his own connection to the Hive, allowing him to link up with symbiotes across the globe.
The King in Black's Hive is rooted in the God of Symbiote's creation of the monsters, as he was connected to each of the creatures he spawned. Eddie Brock's consciousness remained in the Symbiote Hive-Mind after he was killed and navigated through it with Flash Thompson and Rex Strickland to free himself from the King in Black's hold. After defeating Knull, Eddie Brock took his role as King in Black and used the hive-mind to kill Carnage. However, Marvel recently revealed killing the murderous symbiote is a near-impossible task.
Carnage previously showed the ability to connect with the minds of other symbiotes in Extreme Carnage Alpha #1 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Manuel Garcia, Cam Smith, Marc Deering, Roberto Poggi, and Guru eFX. In that story, he jumped from host to host - including the President of the United States. In Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 by Clay McLeod Chapman, Chris Mooneyham, Marcio Menyz, and Travis Lanham, the red symbiote flexes his powers again as he manages to trap Scream and its human host Andi Benton in a prison inside their mind.
Benton is shocked to be separated from Scream as Carnage taunts her and calls their codependence on each other "sick." Carnage manages to bond with Scream as she loses control while being hunted by Guardians - who are tasked with bringing down symbiotes. As Scream, Carnage brutally murders a handful of Guardians, as Andi can only watch from the Hive. In order to sever the connection between Scream and Carnage, Andi is forced to unleash the Hellfire - which separates them but kills her own symbiote. Andi is left surrounded by Guardians as she cries out in sadness.
Carnage is tracking down some of Earth's mightiest symbiote's one-by-one, with Phage up next. With his new powers and connection to his fellow symbiotes, stopping the murderous villain won't be an easy task. Flash Thompson has experienced Carnage's new powers first-hand and might require the assistance of the King in Black himself to figure out to put him down for good, once and for all. Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 is in comic book stores now.
