Ghost Of Tsushima One-Year Anniversary Stats Include 333 Million Duels

Just in time for the one-year anniversary of the release of Ghost of Tsushima, developer Sucker Punch Productions has released a slew of interesting statistics about the game. Ghost of Tsushima was a huge success PlayStation owners when it launched in 2020, and its name has held some weight in many “2020 Game of the Year” conversations since. While it hasn’t reached the same heights in terms of sales that other PlayStation exclusives have, Ghost of Tsushima did reach 6.5 million units sold earlier this year.

Now, a lot of Ghost of Tsushima headlines have been in regards to reveals and rumors of a director’s cut and the next expansion. The director’s cut has managed to both excite and disappoint fans so far; while there’s sure to be plenty more to explore with it, PlayStation is asking $70 for it as part of a new trend that sees new, next-gen games increasing in price. However, the Ghost of Tsushima “Iki Island” expansion has only elicited enthusiasm. The Iki Island details leaked not too long ago, but there have been rumors for some time.

As Ghost of Tsushima continues to be added to, more and more is accomplished in the game, something that Sucker Punch has made very clear with a recent Instagram post. Two images were shared that included incredible facts from the first year of the game. This includes 333.1 million duels, 679.2 million standoffs, and 55.63 million foxes pet. Sucker Punch also included a heartfelt comment thanking its fans for a great year of Ghost of Tsushima, “For every fox you pet, every photo mode shot you shared, every standoff you completed, or any other way you joined us on this journey…” It would be particularly interesting to see how the director’s cut, new expansion, and rumors of a PC release affect these numbers, but only time will tell.

These kinds of numbers put into perspective the power of games. Sucker Punch also shared that well over 4,000 years' worth of time has been spent riding on horses in Ghost of Tsushima, which demonstrates the power of 6.5 million people experiencing the game together. While video games are plentiful and carry high expectations these days, people are still more than willing to sink dozens, hundreds, and even thousands of hours into their favorite games, and with the release of expansions and DLC like Iki Island, the most beloved games are able to maintain a longer life-span.

However, it's unclear just how much longer Sucker Punch will be adding to Ghost of Tsushima. The game could be supported for years to come, but with PlayStation’s backing and a growing team, the limitations on what other projects the team could be working on are getting smaller and smaller. Sucker Punch still has its Infamous franchise that it can return to at some point, and rumors are circling about a new multiplayer game it has in development. Thankfully, Ghost of Tsushima has already managed to cement itself in gaming history as one of the PS4’s must-own games.
