Wolverine's Soul Was Nearly Stolen On Madripoor | Screen Rant

Wolverine's soul was almost stolen by a mutant villain named Sapphire Styx on the island of Madripoor. The Falcon & the Winter Soldier introduced viewers to the island of Madripoor, a fictional location that's particularly associated with the X-Men. It's best compared to the Mos Eisley Cantina of the Marvel Universe, a hive of scum and villainy.

Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes found their way to the Princess Bar, which - again - is lifted straight from the comics. It didn't take long for them to run into trouble, and soon they were on the run from Madripoor's bounty hunters and assassins. Surprisingly, though, their first visit to Madripoor - not to mention their arrival at the Princess Bar - went rather better than Wolverine's. He found himself drawn into a chaotic battle against a Madripoor crime boss named Roche, and one of Roche's agents came close to killing him.

Wolverine can brawl with the best of them, but in Marvel Comics Presents #3 he wound up on the wrong side of the mysterious Sapphire Styx. She possesses the power to steal a person's life force with a touch, to drink their soul in order to replenish her own health and vitality, and the comics have suggested she may have lived for centuries, preying on the unwary. Sapphire Styx gave Wolverine a passionate, unexpected kiss, draining his life - and she was delighted at the sustenance she gained from him, recognizing the almost unlimited health associated with his healing factor.

Roche made a big mistake with Wolverine, however, because he did not allow Sapphire Styx to drain Wolverine dry. The soul of Wolverine tempted her, but Sapphire Styx didn't dare defy Roche, and as a result the Canucklehead was given an opportunity to escape. He soon returned, but this time with friends, and his ally Tyger Tiger dealt her a grievous injury. Sapphire Styx was a coward at heart, desperate to preserve her unending life, and she fled.

Sapphire Styx has only been seen a handful of times since, but she's remained in Madripoor as one of its most dangerous citizens. Mutants like Wolverine have yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's only a matter of time before they do now the film rights to the X-Men have returned to Marvel Studios. It's entirely possible that, next time Falcon and Winter Soldier head to Madripoor, its most dangerous inhabitant will be there as well - meaning their very souls could be in danger.
