Bachelorette: Tayshia Took Out 20K Payroll Protection Loan For Influencing

New details reveal that The Bachelorette's Tayshia Adams may have taken advantage of a loan program that wasn’t intended to be a lifeline for Instagram influencers; this potentially shady business practice could lose her followers. She is one of the most beloved leads in the franchise, and many fans credit Tayshia with saving season 16 of The Bachelorette. She’s risen to the top of the Bachelor Nation influencer pile on social media.

After Clare Crawley bailed on being the lead, Tayshia swooped in to save the day (and season). The new Bachelorette quickly adjusted to the role and formed deep connections with multiple contestants. In the end, Tayshia gave her final rose to Zac Clark. Even though they generally seem happy together, Tayshia and Zac have been battling break-up rumors. Tayshia has once again found herself in the spotlight in Katie Thurston’s season, where she is serving as co-host with fellow former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe in lieu of long-time host Chris Harrison.

The Bachelorette's Kaitlyn and Tayshia are shining in Harrison’s absence, and many fans are loving the job the co-hosts are doing. But outside the show, Tayshia’s business decisions are questionable. Tayshia Adams Media LLC applied for a payroll protection loan for $20,833, which was approved on January 29, 2021, as reported by ProPublica. The company was established in Arizona in 2019 but lists only one employee (presumably Tayshia). Tayshia Adams Media is located in Newport Beach, California, and is categorized under the Independent Artists, Writers and Performers” industry.

Payroll protection loans are designed to assist businesses that have been struggling during the pandemic and offer incentive to keep employees on the payroll. If certain criteria are met (like not laying off said employees), the loan can be forgiven. Tayshia works as a social media influencer, and since she’s the only person on the payroll, she has no need for a loan intended to aid employee compensation. So where did the money go? The Bachelorette's Tayshia is known for her stunning looks and high-roller status, so perhaps the loan was used to bankroll the lavish lifestyle that earns her money on Instagram.

There’s no telling why the former lead of The Bachelorette felt she needed the loan or what she used the money for. The payroll protection loan program was poorly crafted, and many businesses that were not the target of the program still got significant payouts. It’s possible that Tayshia saw a loophole and took advantage of it, which, while shady, isn’t exactly fraudulent. Still, her questionable loan could have a negative impact on her standing among Bachelorette fans, and backlash could be forthcoming.

The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
