With less than a week until launch, New Pokémon Snap's Lental region has been given an online, interactive map. The map highlights the layout of the island, alongside some of the main features of the game. There's also the chance to download some cute Pokémon pictures ahead of the main adventure.
New Pokémon Snap has received no shortage of promotion and hype leading up to its release. Players will have multiple methods of printing out their in-game pictures, depending on their region. The official Nintendo and Pokémon Twitter accounts have also been sharing footage of in-game interactions between the popular pocket creatures. The title even got its own hashtag flair on Twitter, featuring a Meganium.
On April 23rd, Nintendo launched explorelental.com, giving players a chance to preview New Pokémon Snap's world. There are eight locations to explore, each with an overview of the game's features and/or a short video. With each location, the option to download Lental-themed photo filters will appear. There's also the option to link one's MyNintendo account to gain some Platinum points. The videos are all brief but charming, showing off some of the behaviors of the resident Pokémon. For example, on the Beach, players can watch an Alolan Raichu playing in some sand dunes or a Vaporeon enjoying a Fluffruit. Players should be sure to look out for these interactions in the game itself.
The filters are all suitably cute, and about what one would expect from a promotion like this one. They're largely designed for use with a smartphone utilizing a portrait-aligned camera. However, the website can also be accessed on a desktop computer. As for the MyNintendo points, Nintendo has indicated that New Pokémon Snap merchandise will be available in the future, giving fans a prime opportunity to redeem those points.
New Pokémon Snap is shaping up to be one Nintendo's most hyped-up games of 2021, and it's hard not to get swept up in the excitement. Fans have waited a long time for another photography spin-off. The Lental region looks diverse and beautifully designed. While it is unlikely to introduce any new Pokémon, the title is giving less-popular critters a day in the spotlight. Even with just a brief glimpse, the Lental region is already ensuring that Trainers will visit for years to come.
New Pokémon Snap releases on April 30th for the Nintendo Switch.
