Minecraft Resource Pack Makes Creepers Blend Into The Environment

Beloved crafting game Minecraft’s infamous silent assassins, the explosive creepers, have just become even deadlier, as a resource pack allows the mobs to camouflage themselves by blending into the environment. As terrifying as this is, though, it's hardly the first time a resource pack has given a Minecraft enemy a frightful redesign.

Along with creepers, Minecraft’s ghasts are among the most intimidating mobs to exist in the game. They are quite famous even outside the fan community, mostly due to their disturbing behavior and appearance. It was always believed that a ghast couldn't look more terrifying than it already does, but thanks to a simple resource pack, the entity can be transformed into a giant horrifying squid.

On Reddit, user Schmueles shared a deeply disquieting video of Minecraft’s creepers disguising themselves to match their surrounding environment. Luckily, it’s not a glitch in the vanilla client but rather the result of a resource pack called Depixel. While this visual mod adds tons of new textures to the game, it also includes a handful of unique features, one of which is the aforementioned ability of creepers to change their body textures according to the most common blocks in their respective spawning areas. It’s not quite clear if creepers can camouflage themselves dynamically like chameleons, or if all the specific types of coloring are exclusive to certain biomes. Either way, the resource pack emphasizes creepers' stealthy behavior even more as not only can the silently sneaking mobs crawl undetected, but thanks to the mod, they are also virtually invisible.

There’s plenty of frightening hostile mobs in Minecraft, and the list of the game's scariest enemies definitely includes one of the game’s bosses, the Wither. In order to fight this powerful being, one must embark on a difficult quest to collect all the rare resources needed to perform a summoning ritual. One Minecraft player decided to spawn the Wither above the ocean, which is a reasonable idea considering that the mob can destroy the environment with its attacks. These good intentions, though, led to the boss battle turning into a spectacular dogfight in the middle of a thunderstorm.

The featured Minecraft resource pack is somewhat controversial, since it basically buffs one of the game’s worst hostile mobs. In all honesty, it’s not like creepers needed an upgrade. Even in their most basic form, they can easily annihilate any player, be it an underequipped noob or a seasoned pro in a set of enchanted Netherite armor. All it takes is a single perfectly-timed blow, which can launch an unsuspecting gamer off a cliff into the abyss or a pool of lava. And having noiseless, invisible creepers in Minecraft greatly increases the likelihood of such a tragic outcome.
