Hitman: Sniper Assassins Spinoff Announced For Mobile

A spinoff to Hitman: Sniper Assassins has been announced for iOS and Android devices later this year. The franchise about a bald killer with a barcode tattoo on the back of his head has already had a great 2021 with IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews. The indie developer also made back the development costs of Hitman 3 just a week after the game released.

Hitman: Sniper Assassins was announced during today’s Square Enix Presents showcase and will be developed by Square Enix Montréal. The Hitman mobile spinoff was originally teased last week when the publisher announced the presentation on Twitter. The graphic for the announcement listed “new Square Enix Montreal games” among other topics like Marvel’s Avengers news, Tomb Raider’s 25th anniversary, and its upcoming sci-fi third-person shooter, Outriders. The trailer shows multiple new assassins, but not Agent 47. Sniper Assassins will have original story content and missions, and gameplay features distinguishing itself from other games in the series and should hold over players until the long-awaited Hitman 4 is eventually announced.

The trailer shown off during the Square Enix Presents presentation did not show any gameplay, so the way players will be interacting with these new assassins and even the genre of the game are unclear. The last time we saw Hitman on mobile was 2014’s Hitman Go: a turned-based puzzle game that turned regular assassination missions into a digital board game. Hitman Go was also developed by Square Enix's Montréal studio, so there’s a wide variety of possibilities for what Hitman: Sniper Assassins's gameplay could be.
