New Girl: 10 Relationships That Fans Knew Were Doomed From The Start

Not only was New Girl a marvelous show when it came to friendships, but they did a stellar job at depicting the truth of romantic relationships. Thankfully, viewers would see the main characters all find marvelous relationships by the end of the series. However, that did not excuse them from going through a plethora of bad ones along the way.

Mistakes were made a lot throughout the series. In fact, in many cases, it was abundantly clear that these said relationships were doomed from the very beginning of their formations. Even with this being so, they often would not only provide an abundance of entertainment but also would be extremely important for the development of these main characters.

10 Cece And Shivrang

The entire relationship between Cece and Shivrang was a complete and utter mess. It was rushed immensely, as their families arranged a marriage for them. While this was all occurring, it was apparent that Cece still liked Schmidt.

Although this was clear, the two would actually end up making it to their wedding day. From there, of course, they would both back out, as they both made it clear that they were in love with different people.

9 Nick And Angie

Nick certainly was quite enamored by Angie, as she was very beautiful and always liked having fun. However, even with this being the case, it was clear that the two were not going to work out. Angie was just too wild for any real commitment.

Fans cannot say that she did not try though, as she clearly showed interest in Nick. Yet, after Nick confessed the depth of his feelings for her, she left him a note cutting things off. It was a rough blow, but truly a necessity for Nick.

8 Schmidt And Elizabeth

The entire relationship of Schmidt and Elizabeth was built on a lie, so yes, there were never going to work out. He only reconnected with Elizabeth to have a date for Cece's wedding. However, a relationship did blossom again between the two.

After the events of the wedding, Schmidt infamously started dating both Cece and Elizabeth. The cat would come out of the back of course, and his inevitable breakup with Elizabeth came into fruition. Schmidt simply did not deserve her after all the lies he put her through.

7 Jess And Ryan

Ryan was not a bad guy at all, but his relationship with Jess was doomed as soon as he worked overseas. The long-distance relationship between them was simply far too much for both of them to handle.

Important events for Ryan to attend to with Jess simply would not occur, which would sadden Jess to the point where she needed to end things. Although they clearly did have chemistry, the two of them were never going to work out being in different countries from each other.

6 Nick And Caroline

Nick never should have gone back to Caroline in the first place. She was an abysmal girlfriend the first time around and left a severely negative impact on Nick for months after their breakup. However, fearing being alone, Nick decided to reconnect with her.

It was fantastic that Jess would step in to stop this, as Nick was inches away from moving in with Caroline. Nick was clearly rushing into things with a toxic person, so it was abundantly clear that it was not going to be a long-term relationship.

5 Schmidt And Fawn

Schmidt and Fawn were together both for gain, rather than an actual connection. It had also been known at that point that Schmidt still had feelings for Cece, so it was rather strange to see the show have these two pair up.

Overall, Fawn would end up being a huge part of Schmidt's journey though, as she made him realize that he wanted to date someone for love. Their breakup would immediately lead to Schmidt proposing to Cece in one of the top moments from the series.

4 Winston And Daisy

At first, Daisy seemed like a good partner for Winston, as she helped him find his confidence with women again. However, once Winston asked her to be his girlfriend at her apartment, there was another man in the shower, which Daisy lied about.

This would lead to the shortest of relationships from the series, as Winston would later confront her about it. She admitted to cheating once more when Winston left, so he dumped her and took Ferguson as payback.

3 Jess And Robby

Jess was struggling to get over Nick but desperately wanted to. This is where she would start dating Robby. There was a connection between the two, but it seemed off because it was apparent this was just a distraction from Nick for her.

Things would take a massive turn for the worst when they learned that they were actually cousins. It naturally led to the two deciding to end things. The audience knew they weren't going to work, but certainly did not see that coming!

2 Nick And Kai

Kai never left much of an impact on the show, so it was pretty easy to see that she was not going to be Nick's long-term girlfriend. She may have been quite lazy like him, but these two just did not show a single ounce of love with one another.

She would pretty important for Nick's story, as seeing her lack of drive made him want to do more with his life. It even led to Kai dumping him. In a sense, this was massive because it ultimately would be the kick Nick needed to take his writing more seriously.

1 Schmidt And Abby

Abby moved into Schmidt's apartment after dating him for a single episode. This was already a major red flag to begin with, but when factoring in her wild personality, these two were absolutely not going to work.

It certainly was a fun dynamic to watch, but it was apparent that this was going to be a short-term fling. Nonetheless, it did provide a lot of entertaining moments, so it was quite enjoyable to watch this train wreck at least.
