Every year brings a plethora of memes, and 2020 was full of them. The LinkedIn/Facebook/Instagram/Tinder meme was a hit. "How it started vs. how it's going" was fun and inspirational. But the last popular meme of 2020 was one of the best: the "Why are you dressed like that?" meme.
The meme is followed by two photos: a judgemental family staring off at the dinner table and a hilarious follow-up photo of the questionable dresser saying "Like what?" Social media users have gone above and beyond putting their favorite characters next to the disapproving family, causing a surge of hilarious memes.
10 Answer The Question, Lu
As a former Countess, Luann de Lesseps has preached the importance of decorum and good manners for years on The Real Housewives of New York. The last thing LuAnn would ever do is show up to a family dinner in her bathing suit; however, it would be pretty iconic if she did.
9 "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking."
This Devil Wears Prada meme could go either way. The relationship between Miranda and Andy was tense even on their best days.
When Andy showed up on her first day of work, she was cast as an outcast by her lack of fashion sense. She didn't find fashion interesting or even important, which was a big slap in the face for the magazine she was working for. Nevertheless, Miranda never understood Andy's style—until she had a makeover—and Andy didn't understand why women like Miranda didn't dress for comfort. Both women could have easily asked, "what are you wearing?" throughout the movie.
8 "I'm Prison Mike!"
In the episode "The Convict" on The Office, the Scranton branch is thrown off when they find out they have a reformed convict working amongst them named Martin Nash. When Martin comes clean about his past, the office realizes that prison sounds more freeing than working at Dunder Mifflin. Michael decided to use tactics from the show Scared Straight via his alter ego: Prison Mike. If Prison Mike showed up to family dinner in his suit and bandana, one can only imagine the questions that would be asked.
7 That's Queen Charlotte To You
Bridgerton is the latest hit to reach Netflix. Based on the novels by Julia Quinn and produced by Grey's Anatomy creator, Shonda Rhimes, the eight-episode series has taken the world by storm.
The show is based in the 1800s and revolves around the Bridgerton family. The eligible women are seeking proposals but a woman named Lady Whistledown has been documenting the latest gossip in the social scene in a daily newsletter. The most royal and elegant of all the characters is Queen Charlotte. If Queen Charlotte showed up to dinner, it's safe to say she too would be asking what everyone else was wearing.
6 Emily Gilmore Created This Meme
This meme came full circle when it came to Gilmore Girls. "What are you wearing?" is most likely the first question out of Emily Gilmore's mouth when she saw the word "Juicy" written across her daughter's backside. The mother-daughter duo has never gotten along and has never understood each other. In fact, one could say that Emily Gilmore inspired this meme because she's constantly asking her daughter why she does what she does.
5 And The Real Housewife With The Most Controversial Style Goes To...
The Real Housewives of Potomac's Gizelle Bryant has been apart of the Bravo series for the past five seasons. She's an OG housewife for the Potomac franchise and has created quite the storyline when it comes to her on-and-off relationship with her ex Jamal Bryant. Putting her relationship aside, fans of the series have been ripping on her sense of style since she started on the show. From boozy lunches to confessional looks, Gizelle's fashion is questionable, to say the least.
4 Lizzie McGuire Can Do No Wrong In The Fashion Department
Lizzie McGuire only ran for two seasons but it made a huge impact on Disney fans who grew up watching in the early 2000s. The family-friendly show made Hilary Duff's career; Duff even tried to reboot the series but ended her partnership with Disney after the two couldn't agree on how "adult" Lizzie could be on screen (it is a family-friendly TV network, after all).
Lizzie's sense of fashion was everything a 2000s teen could ask for. Watching her stroll up to a family dinner in an igloo dress could have been an episode of Lizzie McGuire itself.
3 There's Nothing To See Here
Imagine showing up to family dinner topless in fishnet stockings like Patrick Star does in SpongeBob SquarePants' "That's No Lady." In the episode, Patrick is scared for his life in Bikini Bottom and threatens to run away. SpongeBob can't imagine his life without Patrick, so the two come up with a plan: Patrick dressed as a woman to throw people off his trail. He called himself Patricia and began acting like a lady. What Patrick didn't realize is that he would have a plethora of gentleman callers who were after Patricia!
2 Kris Jenner Is The Definition Of Extra
It's not often that fans see the Kardashian/Jenner clan without a full face of makeup or dressed in incredible clothes. They're queens of always being dressed in high-end designers and showing off their wealthy pieces that were handpicked for them.
This image of Kris Jenner sipping a martini next to her Birken bag while wearing a fur throw became an instant meme. There's always one person in the family who stands out, and that person would be Kris Jenner if she showed up to this dinner party.
1 The Addams Family: Gothic Chic
When you think about it, the Addams family weren't doing anything cruel or malicious — they were just gothic to the core. Death, black ensembles, and spooky vibes oozed from this family and separated them from the rest of society. But as dark as the family was, they always greeted everyone with kindness and were happy in their own way. Sure, they were judged by practically everyone in their community but that's the beauty of the show/movies.
