Melvin Gregg Movies & TV Shows: Where You Know The Way Back Star

Melvin Gregg’s role as cocky, hard-headed high school basketball player Marcus Parrish in 2020 sports movie The Way Back is putting the actor on the map, but which other films and TV shows has he been in? Gregg’s first ever acting role came playing a teen named Derek in the web show Whatever, The Series which he followed up with bit parts in TV miniseries The Beauty Inside and TV movie The Fallen Prodigy.

In the first few years of his acting career, Melvin Gregg had parts in movies such as comedy Cleaver Family Reunion and horror Loss Of Life before landing a recurring role as Jamel on the comedy series Sexless. In 2015, Gregg starred in the web series Class and its feature-length follow-up - also titled Class - as college student Jolley and had a supporting role as Chad in the TV movie Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! That same year he had a main role in horror movie A House Is Not A Home.

The following year, Melvin Gregg appeared in Steven Caple Jr.’s coming-of-age drama film The Land and nabbed a lead role in Hulu horror series Freakish as high school student LaShawn Devereux whose school is besieged by zombie-like mutants after a chemical plant explosion. He followed up Freakish with a recurring part as a gang member in comedy web show Caught, The Series and had bit parts in fellow web series Dead House and Love Daily.

Gregg’s next big role came in 2018 playing contestant Zach Taylor in season 3 of Lifetime's UnREAL which is set behind the scenes of a reality dating show. That same year, he also starred in the second season of Netflix mockumentary American Vandal as high school basketball star DeMarcus Tillman. In 2019, he appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s critically acclaimed sports drama film High Flying Bird and had a smaller role in mystery drama Same Difference. Gregg added another high-profile TV credit to his resume in 2019 when he joined the cast of John Singleton’s award-winning show Snowfall for its third season, playing rival drug dealer Drew “Manboy” Miller.

Alongside his role in The Way Back, 2020 saw Melvin Gregg appear in episodes of comedy shows #BlackAF and Dave. Next up in his career, he’ll play jazz musician Joe Guy in Lee Daniels’ upcoming biographical drama fThe United States Vs. Billie Holiday and has a main role in Hulu miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers – both of which are set for a 2021 release.
