Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: How Much The Phone Costs & When You Can Buy One

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest foldable phone to come from the company and following two Unpacked events, it has attracted much attention. For those that have been waiting to get hold of the newest Samsung phone, the wait is almost over with a release date now confirmed. Although, buyers will need to get over the high price tag that comes with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 first.

The tech giant offered just glimpses of its latest folding smartphone innovation during the previous Unpacked event. However, with the smartphone drawing closer to its release date, Samsung recently held a second Unpacked event. Aside from giving an in-depth overview on the Galaxy Z Fold 2's capabilities, the event also addressed something that has remained a mystery up until now, how much the new phone would cost.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be hitting shelves in about 40 markets, including Korea, Europe and of course, the U.S. The base version will be available as early as September 18, while the Thom Browne edition will drop on September 25. Pre-orders for both variants have already opened. Furthermore, the Galaxy Fold successor's initial release has only two colors available, Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze. However, its hinge color can be customized in select markets via Samsung's website, and with even more color options available, such as Metallic Red, Metallic Blue, Metallic Silver, and Metallic Gold.

The latest foldable Samsung phone is undoubtedly one of the company's most expensive handsets. In fact, the cost of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 alone even surpasses most of the handsets the company had on display during its main Galaxy Note 20 Unpacked event. For example, while there is the option to trade in and reduce the cost overall, U.S. buyers will be looking at paying a whopping $2,000 for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 via Samsung's website.

Aside from the phone itself, consumers will be getting only a basic selection of peripherals in the box, such as a travel adapter, data cable, ejection pin, along with a pair of AKG earphones with USB-C. Despite what it's lacking in color options and included accessories, it will be interesting to see if the Galaxy Z Fold 2 can succeed where its predecessor didn't. Both Unpacked events have already helped build its foundation and increase interest towards the device, although whether Samsung has really addressed the myriad of issues that the previous model suffered from, remains to be seen.
