Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Releases Fatalis Update This Week

The fifth free title update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is coming later this week, bringing with it the legendary black dragon Fatalis. The update was announced about a month ago and will represent Fatalis' first appearance in a main-series Monster Hunter series in three years.

The next game in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Rise, was announced during a Nintendo Direct showcase about two weeks ago. At the same time, fans learned about Monster Hunter Stories 2, a story-based JRPG set in the Monster Hunter universe. Monster Hunter Rise promises many new additions to the tried and true monster hunting formula, including a grappling hook-esque Wirebug and a rideable dog companion called a Palamute, the latter of which will be featured as an Amiibo alongside a classic Palico and the new game's flagship monster Magnamalo.

But Capcom has not forgotten its previous game, Monster Hunter World. The Monster Hunter YouTube channel posted a new trailer for its upcoming title update yesterday. The trailer showcased not only the imposing dragon Fatalis but another new addition, Arch-Tempered Velkhana. Capcom also showed off the impressive armor and weapons that can be harvested from these powerful monsters, something that's always been a major draw for many Monster Hunter fans. As if that wasn't enough, the trailer also announces a new collaboration quest with, of all things, Universal Studios Japan. This quest comes with its own set of gear, as does the new Fun Fright Fest, which will let fans dress up as a demon lord. Check out the full trailer below and get ready for the update's release on October 1st.

By bringing in the iconic dragon Fatalis for its final title update, Capcom is ensuring that Monster Hunter World will go out with a bang. It's easy to see why the company would take such pains; Monster Hunter World has been a tremendous success, bringing the series more into the mainstream than ever and cementing it as a classic. Monster Hunter World is Capcom's best selling game of all time, and because of that it certainly deserves to close out with such a powerful monster.

Capcom's beloved RPG series has had a long, rich history, and with the release of Monster Hunter Rise next March, it shows no signs of slowing down. Monster Hunter World redefined the series in a major way, significantly redesigning the map and gameplay and making the game more accessible to new players than ever. Monster Hunter Rise looks primed to continue the series' proud legacy of facing down impossible monsters and triumphing over them. But until then, fans can be content in the knowledge that Monster Hunter World will be treating them to a truly unforgettable dragon fight to send them off.
