Overwatch Devs Want Tracer & Doomfist In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

If Overwatch ever had a chance to be represented in the ever-growing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, the developers of Overwatch already have characters in mind for who they would pick. Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan and Lead Hero Designer Geoff Goodman have picked Tracer and Doomfist as the heroes they would want to see join the Smash universe.

Super Smash Bros. is the largest crossover/mash-up in video game history having 76 playable characters representing 37 different franchises. In the upcoming DLC, Nintendo plans to add four more unknown fighters to the already massive roster. While most fighters are from Nintendo games, quite a few are from franchises outside of Nintendo. Overwatch, being one of the world's largest hero-based games, wouldn't feel out of place in a roster that also includes Bayonetta and Banjo Kazooie.

During a Reddit AMA on the Overwatch subreddit, Kaplin and Goodman were asked what Overwatch character they thought would fit best in Super Smash Bros. Kaplin quickly replied with "tracer plz." An obvious choice as Tracer has become somewhat of a mascot for Overwatch and is the hero that appears on the cover of physical copies of the game. Goodman also replied stating that he would like to see Doomfist represented in the crossover fighter series. Goodman stated that Doomfist is kind of like a fighting game hero already and that his design is inspired by fighting games.

These heroes would certainly fit amongst the inclusive roster of Smash Bros., and they already share similar traits to existing Smash characters. Tracer is known for her speed and movement-based abilities which don't differ much from characters like Sonic, Fox, and Falco. Fox's dash ability is a mirror image of Tracer's, and her speed could be similar to Sonic's. Doomfist is also a great pick as his size resembles characters like Inceniroar or Captain Falcon, and his abilities could copy fighters like Little Mac and Terry.

Looking at Overwatch's 32 character roster, it would be hard to pick better characters that would fit in the colorful world of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Maybe a character like Winston who is also a staple of Overwatch could fit in a roster next to larger fighters Donkey Kong and King K. Rule, but his moveset may be limited due to his in-game abilities not being able to translate well into a fighting game. If anyone from Nintendo is reading this, it is time to put Overwatch in Smash Brothers Ultimate, and the heroes that need to be represented have already been laid out.
