Captain America's ex is "more dangerous than a hundred Hulks." Let's face it, Steve Rogers has something of a reputation as the ultimate boy scout. He's the man who will always choose to do what he believes is right, no matter the cost. He has learned never to compromise on his ideals, even if that means he winds up in combat with his friends.
But this lesson was one he learned the hard way. When Steve Rogers first became Captain America in the Second World War, he was just a teenager who'd gained super-powers and become a front-line soldier in a mighty military machine. He obeyed orders, he saluted to the flag, and - all too often - he compromised his morals. Spectacular Spider-Man #15-20 revealed he had supported the US Government in conducting other super-soldier experiments, aimed at creating beings able to survive potential nuclear Armageddon. And one of the test subjects was actually Captain America's girlfriend.
Adriana Soria joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in the early days of World War II, and she had a passion to prove herself that caught Steve Rogers' eye. But the US military had their eye on Adriana as well, recognizing she was a woman of unique potential; she had a latent X-gene, meaning she had the potential to develop superhuman powers. The US Government drafted Adriana into a special unit which was sent to a classified location, where an atomic bomb was being tested. Her body was flooded with radiation, and she was transformed, her powers either created or unlocked. She wound up imprisoned for observation, and Captain America visited her regularly at first, keeping a watchful eye over her. But the visits ended when Captain America was trapped in the ice, believed dead.
Adriana's mind had developed an innate connection to the Web of Life and Destiny, and to all insect life across the planet. Unfortunately the experience drove her insane, and she was committed to a lunatic asylum. She was held there for years, forgotten, until she escaped in the 1950s and went underground. She wouldn't step out of the shadows until the present day, by which time she had mastered her powers. Adriana had given herself the name "The Queen," and she had learned she had the ability to control all insects and arachnids, and any human with the "insect gene" - apparently one-third of all people on Earth. She was stopped by Spider-Man and Captain America, with a disturbed Steve Rogers telling Nick Fury his ex was "more dangerous than a hundred Hulks." By now Captain America had figured out what the Queen was capable of, and he feared she would conquer the Earth single-handedly.
The Queen got her revenge on Steve Rogers years later, when he stumbled into an old Project: Rebirth facility she'd claimed as her base of operations. At the time, she was preparing to initiate her most ambitious plan to date, transforming New York into a so-called "Spider-Island." She took advantage of Cap's unexpected arrival to transform him into a spider-slave, who she called Tarantula, and who she enjoyed turning against all his enemies. The Queen was ultimately killed by Spider-Man's clone Kaine, but no doubt she took some grim satisfaction from knowing what she had put her old lover through.
