There is a wide range of weird and wonderful characters that all help to make How I Met Your Mother a fantastic sitcom, including but not limited to the main cast. There are so many distinct personalities that grow and develop, who share dynamics and relationships, and who fans either love or hate.
Due to these unique and big personalities, the characters are very distinguishable, and so easily fit into the various signs of the zodiac. While many characters display attributes of many signs, each of the signs has one character who truly represent them more than anybody else.
12 Aries - Lily Aldrin
Lily is a character who fits in with a few signs, but despite her fun-loving, soft, Lilypad side, she is very much an Aries.
Passionate, stubborn, and motivated with a big aggressive side, Lily is willing to do anything, and go to any lengths to get her way, whether it be by sabotaging Ted's relationships or demanding that she gets to be the de facto mother of the group.
11 Taurus - Ted Mosby
The main character of the show Ted is pretty much the perfect Taurus, apart from his pretentious nature.
Ted is a very hard worker and is usually loyal to his friends and the woman he loves, as well as both practical and reliable. He is also unbelievably stubborn, but he has all the love in the world, ready and waiting to give.
10 Gemini - Zoey Pierson
It is hard to single out a Gemini in the cast. A few characters display some of the qualities, but ultimately it is Zoey, love interest of Ted and the Captain.
Continually juggling a set of hobbies, causes, and passions of the week, Zoey may be someone who fakes her care on occasion, but remains a dual personality while with the Captain. Even without him, she must act as two people - both Ted's girlfriend and his enemy.
9 Cancer - Stella Zinman
There are a few candidates for Cancer in the show, but nobody truly embodies how Cancers value family like Ted's ex-fiancée Stella.
Stella lives and breathes her daughter and family life, and just like a Cancer, is very protective of both herself and that life, not letting anyone in it for years after her divorce. She is shown to be gentle, caring, and compassionate at every turn, except for at the end, when she left Ted at the altar and mysteriously moved away.
8 Leo - Quinn Garvey
The final step in Barney's growth as a character in relationships before Robin was Quinn Garvey, a definite fire sign.
Full of fire and passion, Quinn loves the attention, spotlight, and glamour, and is fantastically self-confident, all shown through her job and her high opinion of it. Everyone notices Quinn and even Barney becomes smitten, just like a Leo wants.
7 Virgo - Ranjit Singh
Ranjit definitely fits the Virgo bill. He's immensely caring and loyal to the gang that he barely knows. He is also kind and practical, and when he got angry at Barney for sleeping with Robin, it was very Virgo.
Ranjit is also analytical, a primary trait of the Virgo, as seen in his stock market success.
6 Libra - James Stinson
Brother to Barney, James is a character hard to pin down, just like a Libra.
With a love for all things beautiful, including himself, James exemplifies this significant characteristic of a Libra with his suave nature, passion for high-class fashion, and both intelligent and charming nature.
5 Scorpio - Barney Stinson
On to James' brother and probably the most popular character of the show, is there any doubt in Barney's status as a Scorpio? Not only is his birthday November 21st, he fits the sign to a T. Massively misunderstood with an "I'm awesome" outlook on life, Barney has deep-rooted insecurities and secrets, making him both a mystery and immensely calculating.
Willing to wait years, if necessary, to fulfill a plot, such as taking down his boss who stole his girlfriend years earlier, or getting back at Marshall for laughing at a stain, Barney is vengeful, but is also loyal to his friends, with sincere care for them that he displays in their hardest of times.
4 Sagittarius - Robin Scherbatsky
Robin could fit into a few of the fire signs, but ultimately Sagittarius is her best match.
Along with evident passion and determination, the way she values freedom and dreams of traveling the world for work pretty much sums up Robin and Sagittarians, in general.
3 Capricorn - Victoria
Robin could have also been a good candidate for the Capricorn sign, but this falls to one of Ted's earliest loves, Victoria.
Victoria is also someone who is ambitious and loves her work and goes to Germany to try and live out her dream. A Capricorn's sometimes cold, distant nature could be seen on her first night with Ted, but this sign's true sense of compassion could be seen when Ted finds her.
2 Aquarius - Tracy McConnell
Everybody's favorite mistreated character from the show, Tracy, a.k.a "The Mother" is an Aquarius. Her eccentric nature mirrors Ted's but in a much sweeter, more wholesome, and free-spirited kind of way, critical qualities of the Aquarian.
Her nonconformist ways, her unique hobbies, and her high level of compassion (just look at how she met Ted's friends) are all indicative of her Aquarian nature.
1 Pisces - Marshall Eriksen
Last, but definitely not least, Marshall Eriksen is the last member of the gang here, and pairs with the last sign, Pisces. Marshall is a super-sensitive guy - the most so out of the group - and his care for the environment and passion in his career as an environmental lawyer shows this in abundance, as does his relationship with Lily.
He is a dreamer and a believer, and his belief in the weird and wonderful, like Nessie and Big Foot, are great examples of this. He may well be the smartest of the group, but as is typical for Pisces, this is sometimes hard for other people to see.
