Warzone 200-Player Mode Is Live Along With Some Key Weapon Nerfs

The latest Season 4 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare boosts the player count of the ever-popular Warzone battle royale, adds some tweaks to the meta with plenty of weapon adjustments (and nerfs!), and brings a new map and multiple new modes as part of a 22-36 GB update that went live overnight.

Season 4: Reloaded adds a new multiplayer map to the main Modern Warfare multiplayer suite, as well as a new operator and weapon, but the biggest additions can be found in the Warzone battle royale mode. As of this writing, Quads mode supports up to 200 players, allowing 50 teams of four to compete for dominance within the Verdansk map. Warzone also gets the Juggernaut Royale mode, which introduces Modern Warfare's iconic armored super-soldiers to the chaotic fray.

Digging into the patch notes on the Infinity Ward website reveals that it's not all good news for fans of Call of Duty. The latest round of weapon rebalancing has buffed shotgun slugs and marksman rifles like the MK2 Carbine, but other weapons have been nerfed, including popular choices like the MP5 and the Grau 5.56, which has long been one of the most overpowered guns in the game due to its long range and minimal recoil. Meanwhile, the new spotter scope adds even more utility for long-range snipers and marksman shooters, since this tool allows players to scan the battlefield without having a glint give away their position. The spotter scope pairs well with the new Rytec AMR .50 sniper rifle added in the new update.

Call of Duty: Warzone recently lamented the loss of standard Quads mode at the start of Season 4, but now the mode is back, and with an increased player count. It remains to be seen just how much the addition of 50 extra soldiers on the field will change the dynamic of the battle royale experience, but the new mode, combined with the new weapon rebalancing, will be a lot for returning players to get used to as Season 4 wears on. Here are some of the biggest takeaways from the Season 4 Reloaded update:

  • 200 player Quads in Warzone
  • Juggernaut Royale Mode in Warzone
  • New map: Cheshire Park
  • New weapon: Rytec AMR
  • Weapons like the MP5 and Grau 5.56 are nerfed
  • Shotgun slugs, snipers, and marksman rifles are buffed
  • New Gulag loadouts
  • Lowered audio from Supply Choppers
  • Stopping Power now applies to headshots, allowing weapons like the FAL and Oden to achieve one-hit-kill headshots

Even as the next-gen video game machines loom large on the horizon, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is showing no signs of slowing down. Since the release of Call of Duty 2 in 2005, a new CoD title has released annually. If the rumors about Black Ops: Cold War are true, this trend doesn't look to be changing in 2020, but it's increasingly clear that Modern Warfare isn't going anywhere. Whatever 2020 holds for Activision's prized cash cow, it will take something truly spectacular to pull players away from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
