Teen Wolf Season 7 Could Still Happen But Jeff Davis Won’t Write It

Creator Jeff Davis doesn't rule out Teen Wolf returning for a seventh season - but can't imagine ever writing another episode. Teen Wolf began life as a 1985 film written by former Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. Starring Michael J. Fox, the film followed an ordinary high school student named Scott Howard. Upon discovering that he's a werewolf, Scott utilized his new abilities to excel on his school's basketball team and generally increase his popularity. Despite mixed reviews, Teen Wolf was a commercial success - ultimately spawning an animated series and direct sequel led by Arrested Development star Jason Bateman.

Developed by Davis, a television series loosely based on the film debuted on MTV in 2011. Blending comedy and more dramatic elements, the series starred Tyler Posey as Scott McCall. After being bitten by an initially mysterious assailant, Scott found himself transformed and introduced to a wider supernatural world. Teen Wolf also starred Dylan O'Brien as Stiles Stilinski, Holland Roden as Lydia Martin, and Shelley Hennig as Malia Tate. As members of Scott's ever-shifting and expanding pack, the group often found themselves facing down mysterious threats and serving as Beacon Hill's de facto protectors. Earlier seasons also featured prominent roles for the Arrowverse's Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Swamp Thing star Crystal Reed. After six seasons, the show officially concluded in 2017.

Celebrating the 9th anniversary of the Teen Wolf season 1 premiere, MTV reunited various cast members and Davis to reflect upon the show's history. Moderated by Josh Horowitz, they discussed several iconic characters, moments, and episodes. They even participated in a quiz to see just how well they each remembered the show and their characters. Amid all the nostalgia, however, Horowitz looked to the future of the show and questioned whether it could one day continue. Davis was quick to respond:

"You guys have no idea how many messages I get: 'Where is season 7 of Teen Wolf?' I'm like, 'Oh my god.' I couldn't imagine writing another episode. Well, I know that there are entities out there that want it, but whether it's from me or someone else, who knows. But we're in a reboot culture so everything gets made again eventually."

Linden Ashby, who played Sheriff Stilinski on the show, went on to joke that Davis's potential passing of the torch was him "chickening out". Others, meanwhile, suspected that the show creator likely had secret ideas for future adventures. Davis, who also created Criminal Minds, opted to neither confirm nor deny. Following Teen Wolf, Davis was said to be developing an Aeon Flux series for MTV. However, little has emerged regarding the latter in the time since. During the reunion, the cast members also pondered what their individual characters might be up to. It was here that Davis revealed he had previously planned to return to the Teen Wolf universe - having desired to resolve Kira's cliffhanger with a spinoff.

Davis didn't elaborate whether the entities that wanted the show to return were MTV, streaming services, or merely parts of the fandom. Whatever the case, Davis's words will likely fuel further hope and mild unease. While it's true that reboots are frequent within entertainment, Posey and others have become synonymous with their respective characters. O'Brien, especially, has found his popularity translating into a flourishing film career and a viral recreation of The Social Network's 'Lawyer Up' scene. As such, the idea of the show rebooting with a new cast will likely feel akin to blasphemy for many. Thankfully, though Davis doesn't envision himself writing a continuation, he doesn't rule out serving as a producer. Equally, the majority of the actors remain fond of their characters and time on the show. Therefore, should Teen Wolf ever actually return, it'll likely be in a form fans can get on-board with.
