Zendaya says the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast was unable to read the full script for their Marvel sequel because of the Avengers: Endgame spoilers found within. Endgame arrived at the tail-end of April 2019 and concluded the decade-spanning Infinity Saga in explosive fashion. Only months later, Far From Home arrived to show audiences how the world had changed after the events of Endgame. Technically, the existence of Far From Home all by itself was a spoiler because, prior to Endgame, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) was dead. Still, that didn't stop Marvel from releasing the first trailer for Far From Home before Endgame even hit theaters.
That trailer still managed to hide Endgame's biggest spoiler, which was that Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) died during the final battle against Thanos (Josh Brolin). The affects of Iron Man's death on Peter became the part of Far From Home fans were most curious about, largely because Peter was introduced to the MCU through his relationship with Tony. Even though he was already dead, his presence loomed large in Far From Home, and it won't be surprising if it continues to do so in the MCU going forward.
By now, it's common knowledge how careful Marvel is when it comes to spoilers. This even extends to those working on their projects, as evidenced by this new reveal from Zendaya. While talking to Pose star MJ Rodriguez for Variety, Zendaya briefly discussed how Marvel approached the Endgame spoilers present in Far From Home. As Zendaya explained:
And there’s so many secrets, and half of the script you can’t even read because there’s too many spoilers for, at the time, “Endgame” and all these other things. It’s like, you don’t really know what you’re doing. It’s just so big that you’re like, “I’m just going to figure it out as I go.”
Zendaya, who plays Peter's friend and love interest Michelle "MJ" Jones, will return for the still-untitled Spider-Man 3. Like every Marvel project these days, much of that film remains a mystery; no plot details have been revealed, and fans don't even know who the villain will be. Seeing as it's not scheduled to arrive until November 2021, it'll likely be some time before Marvel parts with any major details regarding Spider-Man 3. Still, it's almost certain to pick up from Far From Home's shocking mid-credits scene, which saw Peter's identity shared with the world as he was framed for Mysterio's (Jake Gyllenhaal) death.
It'll be interesting to see what lengths Marvel will go to in order to keep Spider-Man 3's secrets under wraps, as they've already shown they'll do just about anything. Endgame actress Emma Fuhrmann once shared a page from her script, and every scene except for her own was redacted. Marvel takes spoilers seriously, and one could argue that they take them too seriously. It definitely seemed to make things harder for the Far From Home cast. Then again, when one has someone like Holland (or, someone who is notorious for sharing spoilers) among their cast, maybe some extra precautions are necessary.
