Berlin (Pedro Alonso) may have been gunned down by police at the end of Money Heist season 2 and apparently killed, but it's possible that the captain of the Royal Mint heist could still be alive. Berlin (whose real name is Andrés de Fonollosa) was revealed to be the Professor's (Álvaro Morte) brother, and was suffering from a rare genetic disorder called Helmer's myopathy that would have killed him within a few months of the heist.
There's no denying that Berlin was bad news. A self-confessed misogynist and probable psychopath, he was as much an antagonist to the rest of the crew in Money Heist seasons 1 and 2 as the police were. Yet despite his reprehensible nature, Berlin was also charismatic, with his own unique set of values, and had great screen presence - making him a fan-favorite character.
In the recently-released documentary Money Heist: The Phenomenon, show creator Álex Pina said that he regrets killing off Berlin but was told to do so by higher-ups, because the character's bigoted views and sexual abuse of one of the hostages didn't fit with the times. Pina countered:
"People need to get their heads checked because I’m sure he’s not the character you’d want your daughter to marry. [But] that dominant side to him, his leadership, repulses us but it gives us a certain sense of safety."
Pina brought Berlin back for Money Heist seasons 3 and 4 in the form of flashbacks to his time planning the Bank of Spain heist and his relationship with Palermo (Rodrigo De la Serna). However, there was also some room for ambiguity left in Berlin's death scene in the season 2 finale, which may have been Pina's way of leaving the option open to bring Berlin back in the future.
Given that Money Heist season 3 picks up two and a half years after the events of season 2, there are two challenges to Berlin still being alive: if the hail of police gunfire that he ran into didn't kill him, then his disease would have. However, it's mentioned that some people with Helmer's myopathy can survive with the right treatment. While Berlin was only taking drugs to manage his symptoms, someone with an interest in doing so could have found a way to prolong his life.
Unlike the other characters who died in Money Heist season 2, Oslo (Roberto Garcia) and Moscow (Paco Tous), Berlin's body was never shown. After being shot several times in the torso by police, he fell to the ground. After that point his body (whether dead or alive) would have been taken into police custody - and that's where the possibility of Berlin still being alive comes in. Colonel Prieto (Juan Fernández), who was traumatized by the stress of the Royal Mint heist, was complicit in having Rio (Miguel Herrán) captured and then tortured, and in illegally keeping his arrest a secret. If Berlin survived the shootout at the end of Money Heist season 2, he may have faced a similar fate as Rio.
Prieto would have done anything to keep Berlin alive so that he could be grilled for information about the Professor's plans, especially after the other robbers escaped. The colonel may have even gone to the lengths of finding a better treatment for Berlin's disease. If this did happen, then presumably CNI was unsuccessful at extracting information about either the Royal Mint heist or the Bank of Spain heist. But if Berlin is alive, then he could return in Money Heist season 5. After all, as he said to Palermo: "I'm confident that one way or another, time will bring us back together."
