MBTI® Sweet Magnolias Characters | ScreenRant

Netflix's Sweet Magnolias is the perfect girly TV drama for fans of Gilmore Girls and Hart Of Dixie. The show tells the stories of three best friends live in Serenity, South Carolina, who help each other cope with the changes in their lives, usually over some margaritas. Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliot), and Helen (Heather Headley) are total friendship goals.

Every character in Sweet Magnolias struggles with living in such a small town where gossip runs rampant and there are many big personalities. Here is the MBTI® of each of the main characters who live in Serenity.

10 Annie Sullivan: ENTP

Anneliese Judge's Sweet Magnolias character, Annie, is Dana Sue's budding photographer daughter. Annie sounds like an ENTP or "the enterprising explorer."

She's "clever and resourceful," like when she starts taking photos of interesting and unique places around town and sharing them on an Instagram account. Dana Sue wants to get out of Serenity and with her drive, she'll definitely be able to do it.

9 Tyler Townsend: ISFJ

Maddie's son Tyler (Carson Rowland) is a talented athlete who struggles with his broken family. Although he's rebelling a bit more, he's an ISFJ or "the practical helper."

He's "traditional" as he likes being the star athlete at school, and he wants his family to look like everyone else's and not be the subject of the gossip mill. But Tyler is a nice person who cares about others, too.

8 Bill Townsend: ISTJ

Chris Klein's Sweet Magnolias character, Bill, is an ISTJ or "the responsible realist." The town doctor falls from grace a bit when he cheats on his wife Maddie with Noreen and then decides to marry Noreen and raise their baby together.

Bill thinks that he's doing the right thing, though, and he approaches the situation in a practical and logical manner. He's "matter-of-fact" but realizes that following the so-called rules might not make him happy as he often seems to miss Maddie and his family.

7 Noreen Fitzgibbons: ESFJ

Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears) is a lot nicer than her situation would make her seem. Sure, she was "the other woman," but she wants the best for her baby and she doesn't want to be the town pariah.

Noreen is an ESFJ or "the supportive contributor" as she wants to be a helpful and positive part of Bill's life. Although she can get a bit carried away, like cheering too loudly at Tyler's games, she cares a lot about family and being traditional.

6 Erik Whitley: INFJ

Erik (Dion Johnstone) works at the restaurant with Dana Sue and while he starts off making delicious pastries and desserts, he wants a promotion and he works hard for it.

His MBTI would be INFJ or "the insightful visionary." As a chef, Erik is an artist, and he has a soft side that he doesn't let everyone see. He likes getting along with other people and has a huge crush on Dana Sue.

5 Ryan Wingate: INFP

Helen's first love Ryan (Michael Shenefelt) comes back to town and it's a huge surprise. He's an INFP or "the thoughtful idealist" as he seems to have a strict vision for how he wants his life to work out.

Ryan is a do-gooder who has traveled the world but never forgot about Helen, whom he would really like to be with long-term. It seems like that would only be on his terms, though, so things are pretty shaky between them.

4 Cal Maddox: ENFJ

Justin Bruening's character, Cal, is the high school baseball coach who does his best to avoid the rumor mill that he seems to be at the center of.

Cal is an ENFJ or "the compassionate facilitator." When ENFJs are in a leadership role, they want to be a positive and motivating force, and they want people to get along. That sounds a lot like what Cal does as a sports coach. He's also quite friendly and charming.

3 Dana Sue Sullivan: ENTJ

As the owner of a beautiful restaurant called Sullivan's and the single mom of Annie, Dana Sue doesn't need help from anyone... or so she thinks. When she has some health problems, she realizes that it's okay to ask for assistance and that she'll be better off.

Dana Sue is definitely an ENTJ or "the decisive strategist." She's most comfortable running her kitchen and telling people what to do. These types are good with leadership tasks and if they're not in charge, they get upset, which is exactly what happens here.

2 Helen Decatur: INTJ

Helen is an INTJ or "the conceptual planner." As a family lawyer, she helps people every day, but has a hard time with the fact that she's still single and hasn't started a family yet. INTJs are "masterminds" who can set up a process to easily achieve their goals.

Helen decides that the three women should open up a spa, and she's in charge of the whole thing, from hiring contractors to making sure that everything runs right on schedule.

1 Maddie Townsend: ISTP

Putting her life back together after her husband left her for the younger woman whom he got pregnant, Maddie is a calm, patient, sweet person. Her MBTI® would be ISTP or "the logical pragmatist."

Maddie struggles a bit with the whole "good Southern belle" persona and while she respects the beautiful town where she lives, she wonders how she can be happy when she cares so much about other people's expectations and opinions. ISTPs are "quiet observers," which is how Maddie has lived her life up until now, raising her kids and trying to do her best. But now she's shaking things up and it's very fun to watch.
