Five Nights At Freddy Movie Is Rapidly Moving Forward

Progress on a Five Nights At Freddy's movie has been rapidly moving ahead, Jason Blum reveals. A film based on the popular horror game has been planned since 2015 but has run into several production problems. While originally picked up by Warner Brothers in 2015, the film then shifted over to horror production studio Blumhouse in 2017 and had its progress set back significantly. Along with losing its original writer and director, the movie had its original script scrapped and rewritten after Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon didn't like it.

Five Nights At Freddy's (also known as FNaF) started as a point and click horror game released by Cawthon in 2014. Players would take the role of a nighttime employee at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and have to manage their power supply as animatronic robots came to kill them. While a simple concept, the game received high praise for its spooky atmosphere, interesting lore, and superb use of jump scares. Along with the planned movie, FNaF has had six sequels, four spin-offs, and eight novels.

On a Zoom Q&A, a question from Youtuber 3C Films led to Jason Blum revealing that progress on a FNaF movie is rapidly moving ahead. While no new specific details were given, Blum mention that work on the film has been super active, and we have a perfect shot at seeing the film move into production. Updates on the film have been scarce, so this is a good reassurance to fans that Blumhouse hasn't given up just yet. Blum was reluctant to give a specific time frame on when the movie would be finished, but he stated that he was confident that the film would be coming soon. Check out the interview below:

Blumhouse's history of horror films makes it an excellent fit for a FNaF film. Blumhouse is known for producing cheap horror films that usually get a big return at the box office. While the movies may be made on a tighter budget, Blumhouse has released some iconic horror films like Paranormal Activity, Get Out, and The Purge. Along with original films, Blumhouse also played a role in bringing back some franchises as well, even getting horror icon John Carpenter to return to score Blumhouse's Halloween sequels. Blumhouse's track record of horror means that it is likely the best studio to understand and provide a unique sense of dread from Five Nights At Freddy's.

As a whole, video game movies have a mixed reputation. Most games have a narrative between 10-20 hours, so something is lost when it is condensed to an hour and a half long experience. The short length and simple game mechanics of Five Nights At Freddy's act as a strength for the adaptation because it will allow for the key themes of the game to be transferred to film while also allowing for it to expand in some unique ways. With an experienced horror studio like Blumhouse at the helm, it will be interesting to see if Five Nights At Freddy's is going to be good, or if fans will wish it stayed out of business.
