The Vampire Diaries: Klaus' 5 Best Outfits (& 5 Worst)

The popular vampire TV show The Vampire Diaries introduced a lot of great characters to its fans during its eight seasons. One of the most popular ones was Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire slash hybrid who caused a lot of trouble for Mystic Falls and its citizens, not just Elena but also Stefan and Damon. Klaus was sympathetic sometimes but positively devilish most of the time.

Luckily, he had such charm that he became a fan-favorite despite his many evil deeds. Klaus has worn many outfits in the show but some of them were good while others not so much. Let's take a look at Klaus' 5 best and 5 worst outfits.

10 Best: Suit Up!

A lot of The Vampire Diaries male characters clean up nice and look great in suits. Klaus is no exception. Looking at him in a suit, he's so dashingly handsome that it would almost be easy to forget that he's actually the bad guy and not one of the heroes.

In his everyday life, Klaus opts for more casual style, but he's once lived as a nobleman and he's accustomed to dressing well for special occasions, such as parties and celebrations. It's not so visible in the picture but the color of the tie brings out the color of his eyes well.

9 Worst: A Size Too Big

Just like so many vampires who thrill in the darkness of their immortal souls, Klaus' favorite color, when it comes to choosing his clothing, is black. He wore a lot of black clothes in the show, and while he rocked some of them, others weren't so good. This is one such example.

The coat itself isn't bad but when you look at the sleeves and the collar, it looks just a bit too big on Klaus and it might be a better fit if it was one size smaller.

8 Best: Rennaisance Klaus

As said above, Klaus used to live like a nobleman and he dressed the part he played. When he met Katherine in the 1490s, she believed him to be a rich man who was charmed by her, but the truth was much darker.

In this particular scene, Klaus and Katherine form a dangerously handsome couple, even though neither of them is in love with the other. The cut of his clothes flatters Klaus, and blue color in general suits him thanks to his blue-grey eyes.

7 Worst: Light Color

Don't get us wrong - this outfit isn't bad, actually far from it. It's a suit, and as said above, Klaus rocks a suit quite easily. Yet it's not one of the best outfits he ever wore on the show since it doesn't fit him as a character.

Klaus is a dark person, an antihero at best, and that's where he's at his strongest. When he tried to make Caroline fall for him, he also adjusted his wardrobe to it, making it lighter, but that's not really who he is on the inside, even though he also has some positive character traits.

6 Best: Human Klaus

Long before he came to Mystic Falls and tormented Elena, or even before he and Katherine met, Klaus was once a human too. He lived with his family, loved by his siblings but hated by his father.

The clothes he's wearing are somewhat complex, and they would mostly work even in modern times. The hairstyle isn't so flattering on Klaus, he looks better with shorter hair, but the contrast between white and black almost always works.

5 Worst: Bad Colors

Besides being something of a psychopath and a person who likes to dagger his siblings when they disobey, Klaus also found time for hobbies in his life. He started painting and became quite proficient at it, proving that he has an artistic eye. That's why it's so strange that he picked mismatched colors for his outfit, especially if he knew he was going to face his crush, Caroline.

The colors don't really work well together, and while it might be the lighting of the scene, make Klaus look washed out and tired.

4 Best: Simple Choice

Sometimes the simplest choice when it comes to outfits is the best one. When Klaus comes back to Mystic Falls, breaks the curse, becomes a hybrid, and wants to create his hybrid army, he doesn't have that much time to think about his clothes.

That's why it might seem like he just threw on a random shirt in this scene, but it actually works. While it's nothing to write poems about, it does highlight Klaus' long neck nicely and the dark color of the shirt creates a contrast with his pale skin.

3 Worst: The Roaring Twenties

Klaus and light colors, white or light grey, simply aren't a good combination. Darker colors suit him better since they bring out his light hair and blue-grey eyes. They also fit his personality better. Klaus might mask it from time to time when it suits his purpose but he isn't exactly a ball of sunshine.

The 1920s outfit is too light for him, considering Klaus no doubt feasted on a lot of human blood in this time and must have gotten it dirty, and his hair slick back also isn't the best hairstyle he ever had.

2 Best: Casual Klaus

Klaus and Stefan have a lot of scenes together in the show which gives the fans the unique opportunity to compare their clothing styles. Klaus likes to dress in a casual way, just like Stefan, but he's still more elegant than his much younger friend/enemy.

After all, he's been around a long time and had the chance to built his style. The combination of two darker colors looks great on Klaus, the jacket brings out his arms and the necklace takes the outfit from good to great.

1 Worst: Retro Klaus

Klaus has been around for a long time and he lived through many eras. While he looked great in some of them, when it came to recalling the past, he made a questionable choice.

Enough has been said about light colors and while they might not be the best choice for Klaus, but there are more things that are wrong about this outfit. Most importantly, its cut doesn't flatter Klaus in the slightest and it makes him look like he stole the clothes from his big brother.
