Palpatine & Tarkin Dress As Old Military Generals In Fancy Star Wars Fan Art

The evil Emperor Palpatine and Grand Moff Tarkin dress as old military generals in cool Star Wars fan art. Tarkin served as an introduction to the evil Galactic Empire. After he blew up Princess Leia's home planet Alderaan it was clear the Resistance was up against some vile villains. Palpatine's character was so ruthlessly evil he managed to pull off being the big bad for all nine Star Wars films. The two men may be dead, but their impact on the galaxy was undeniably massive.

Although Tarkin was first seen utilizing the Death Star to terrifying effect in A New Hopehe was also the main reason that Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor from Rogue One didn't make it out of Scarif alive. Ironically Tarkin would later be killed aboard the Death Star thanks to Luke Skywalker. However, had he lived, Tarkin undoubtedly would've continued to have been a formidable foe. Palpatine fared better than his subordinate. Somehow, Palpatine survived being tossed down a shaft by Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi and managed to live long enough to wreak havoc years later in The Rise of Skywalker. In another case of irony, Palpatine was defeated by his own granddaughter Rey Skywalker, thus putting an end to the evil he wrought during the entirety of the Skywalker Saga.

Instagram user Scadarts cleverly superimposed Palpatine's and Tarkin's faces onto two old historical portraits of military generals in an impressive feat of Photoshop. The result is incredibly realistic and totally in character for both Palpatine and Tarkin. Check out the cool fan art below.

While Darth Vader is arguably the most iconic Star Wars villain, he certainly redeemed himself during the climax of Return of the Jedi. Palpatine and Tarkin were so epic because they were unapologetically evil to the very end. They say a story's hero is only as good as its villain, and that couldn't be more accurate with both Palpatine and Tarkin. The two villains could've easily veered into two-dimensional characters, but thanks to the outstanding portrayals by Ian McDiarmid and Peter Cushing, Palpatine and Tarkin made the Star Wars films more interesting because they raised the stakes for what the heroes had to lose. The fan art of the pair as military generals is a stunning and fitting tribute to two of the best villains of all time.

There simply would be no Star Wars without Palpatine or Tarkin. It will be interesting to see what Star Wars does next now that the Skywalker saga is complete, and there's no Palpatine or Tarkin to strike fear in rebel hearts. The future of the Star Wars franchise should take a lesson from the two villains and make future heroes have to face off against a big bad who isn't afraid to blow up a planet or two. After all, a good story even in a galaxy far, far away is nothing without high stakes.
