As Mindy’s partner for most of the series, Danny had a large role in her life and was the source of many hilarious storylines. But as charming and educated as Danny is, he’s also the resident bad boy. He can be rude to the people he cares about, he’s not great with communication, and he tells just as many white lies as Mindy does.! Through the good and the bad, let’s take a look at some of Danny Castellano’s best and worst moments.
10 The Best: He Took Care Of His Dad When He Was In Need
For a long time, Danny didn’t have a good relationship with his father, Alan, who walked out on the family, forcing Danny to be the man of the house. Over time, Danny’s brother convinced him to start a relationship with Alan, and he does just that. After getting a phone call that his dad had a heart attack, Danny drove to the West Coast to take care of him and his little sister. It was very big of Danny to drop everything to care for his ailing father.
9 The Worst: He Broke Things Off With Mindy Before They Could Get Started
After a business trip to California, Danny realized he had feelings for Mindy and decided to act on them. He kissed her on the airplane and the two started their secret relationship. But after a couple of weeks, Danny got cold feet. Seeing him end things with Mindy after being the one who started everything was upsetting to see.
8 The Best: He Pays His Mother's Bills
Once Mindy and Danny start dating, we see his mom more and more. At first, she rudely thought Mindy was Danny’s cleaning lady — not his girlfriend. To try and win her over, Mindy was on her best behavior at her birthday luncheon. But after Danny’s gift doesn’t go over well, his mother goes on a tangent about Danny paying for all her bills and taking care of her in her ailing age. Seeing that Danny took care of his mom’s bills made us have a soft spot for the bad boy.
7 The Worst: He Tried Hooking Up With Peter's Sister
Hooking up with friends’ siblings is a big no-no. It’s especially bad when your friend has to specifically tell you “hands off.” In this case, Danny starts talking to Peter’s cute sister after breaking up with Mindy. So not only was he being rude to Mindy by flirting with a new woman right in front of her at work but he hurt his friend by hooking up with his sister after being told not to.
6 The Best: He Was Willing To Move To San Francisco For Mindy
It was pretty cold of Mindy to plan on staying in San Francisco without talking it over with her baby daddy and partner, Danny. After an amazing fellowship, Mindy had the opportunity to open a new clinic on the West Coast, an opportunity she really wanted.
She knew Danny would be against living in California, which is why she was so scared to tell him. However, after taking some to time thinking about their relationship, Danny pulled the trigger and said he’d move there for her. As we know, Mindy decided to come back to New York but it was still a great gesture.
5 The Worst: He Didn't Write A Recommendation Letter For Mindy's Fellowship
In order for Mindy to get the Stanford fellowship, she needed a recommendation letter. She asked one of the older doctors to write one for her but after being tricked by Danny, he opted not to. Mindy was devastated at the thought of not being taken seriously, and cried on Danny’s shoulder. Seeing as he was the reason why Mindy didn’t get the recommendation, he decided to put his pride aside and write the letter on his behalf. But it was still crummy of him to stand in the way of Mindy’s dreams.
4 The Best: He Bought A House For Mindy
A house in Harlem doesn’t necessarily sound like Mindy Lahiri, but it’s the thought that counts, right?
With Mindy away on her fellowship, Danny started planning their future and surprised her with a house. The house needed a total makeover but it was obvious that his heart was in the right place. We just wish he talked this over with Mindy before buying a home for their family.
3 The Worst: He Lied About Being Married
Danny has always given Mindy a hard time about her love life. Heck, even her life in general. These two may have loved each other but they’re completely different.
After Mindy pretends to date Cliff so she can get her taxes in order, he drops a bombshell on her: Danny was still legally married to his ex-wife. After giving Mindy a hard time about her taxes, it was hypercritical of him to judge her when his affairs weren’t in order either.
2 The Best: He's An Awesome Dad
Danny may be a chauvinist and a bad partner from time to time but he’s a great dad. Since his dad left him when he was younger, Danny made sure to always be there for little Leo. Even when Mindy and Danny broke up, Danny always put in the effort to be there for his son, which is all an ex can really ask for.
1 The Worst: He Told Mindy He Didn't Want To Marry Her In Front Of Everyone
At Mindy and Danny’s baby shower, tensions were high because Danny recently bailed on a trip to Boston to meet her parents. After being quizzed why he didn’t show up, he told Mindy it was because he didn’t want to explain to them why he and Mindy weren’t married. It was then that he told her he didn’t want to get married again and didn’t see himself marrying her. Oh, and did we mention he said this in front of the entire party? Mindy was heartbroken and humiliated at her own shower.
