Star Wars: George Lucas' Favorite Clone Wars Episode

Star Wars: The Clone Wars creator George Lucas and Producer Dave Filoni discussed their favorite Clone Wars episode during a staff Q&A session. The celebrated filmmaker produced the animated spin-off series alongside Dave Filoni, whom he hand-picked to oversee the show. The pair talked about their experience working on Clone Wars and revealed some details about the show, including their favorite episode. Clone Wars is scheduled to wrap its final season in May 2020 on Disney Plus.

The show first debuted on Cartoon Network in 2008 and was well received by the audience. It became one of the network’s highest-rated shows. It was then added to Adult Swim making Clone Wars, the first show to ever feature on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim at the same time. After a six-year run, the show came to an end following an announcement on plans to work on a new Star Wars series and the sequel trilogy.

During the 2018 Q&A that aired on The Star Wars Show (via YouTube), the moderator asked Lucas and Filoni which their favorite Clone Wars episode was. Filoni gave a general answer saying, “the ones that were least like any the movies” were his favorite since they got to be creative and challenge themselves. Lucas, on the other hand, gave a very specific answer. “It’s the one with the droids. It’s THX white limbo in Star Wars land.” he said, referring to the episode “A Sunny Day In The Void."

In the episode, R2-D2, Colonel Gascon, and a ship full of astromech droids encountered a meteor shower, which forced them to crash land on a deserted planet. The Droids began to question their commander, which led to an entire episode of self-actualization. Filoni concurred with Lucas about the episode’s appeal but also noted how bizarre it was, especially for the Clone Wars audience.

Despite selling Lucasfilm to the Walt Disney Company, Lucas’ influence can still be felt in the Star Wars saga through the Clone Wars series. He took an active role in the making of the series, and according to Filoni, he always kept them on their toes but also patiently taught them about his filmmaking style. The upcoming final season will officially conclude Lucas’ influence in the Star Wars saga as J.J Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan took over production since the sale to Disney. However, Lucas’ legacy will live on as one of the most successful producers of all time.
