Grey's Anatomy: Best Episodes Of Season 8, Ranked By IMDb

Season 8 of Grey's Anatomy, the hit primetime medical drama on the ABC network, is packed full of drama; in fact, some could argue it's the most dramatic season of the entire series. The series picks up with Meredith's career and personal life hanging in the balance after everyone learns that she tampered with her and Derek's clinical trial to treat Dr. Webber's wife, Adele.

The season ends with six of our favorite doctors on a small plane headed to perform a surgery in Idaho; however, the plane crashes, leaving most of them seriously injured and one of the main characters dead.

10 Hope For The Hopeless (8.5)

This is a big episode for Dr. Richard Webber, who is performing his 10,000th surgery. The surgery is a liver transplant between two twin sisters. The twins, Marcy and Karen, don't seem to get along at all and the only reason Marcy is giving Karen a piece of her liver is because she is obligated to do so as her twin sister.

Late in the episode, Richard's wife, Adele, wanders into the emergency room looking for her husband. Adele's Alzheimer's has worsened and she walked from her care facility to the hospital, very confused.

9 Support System (8.5)

Owen and Cristina's marriage is on the brink of disaster after Owen has an affair. Cristina wants to know every detail, pressuring Owen to relive what he did for her, which he doesn't want to do, thinking it will only cause her more pain.

Throughout this entire episode, flashbacks to Owen and Cristina talking about the affair and flashes of what really happened are shown. The fight crescendos until Cristina locks herself in the bathroom crying and Owen tries to break down the door to get to her.

8 The Girl With No Name (8.5)

All of the residents are being wooed by different hospitals around the country as they get ready to apply for attending positions once they pass their board exams.

Cristina is getting gift baskets from different hospitals and is being flown around the country for interviews. At Seattle Grace Mercy West, a girl is admitted as a Jane Doe, but the doctors quickly figure out her name is Holly and she's a child who went missing many years ago and was being held captive.

7 Moment Of Truth (8.5)

The day has finally come for the residents' board exams. They have to fly to San Francisco for the oral exam, which they each take individually while the other doctors wait in the hallway. The stress is at an all-time high for everyone. April and Jackson decide to grab a drink after a long day, in the hotel bar.

While there, they get into a bar fight with another doctor there for the exam. With their adrenaline racing, April kisses Jackson and they go back to April's hotel room, despite the fact April has always maintained that she's waiting for marriage.

6 Let The Bad Times Roll (8.5)

It's the morning after the board exams and the residents are full of anxiety and completely unsure of how they did or if they passed. They gather themselves to head back to Seattle. At the same time, Jackson's mother, Catherina, and Richard Webber have just spent a romantic evening together in the same hotel.

Catherine has friends on the board who have informed her that one of the residents from Seattle Grace Mercy West didn't pass the exam, but no one knows who they are talking about.

5 Migration (8.6)

The residents are making their final decisions about which hospitals they will be working at next year. April is spiraling after losing her virginity to Jackson and then failing her board exams. All of April's offers have been pulled once the hospitals hear she didn't pass her exams.

They were in the back of the plane, which broke off during the crash and landed someplace differently. When the group manages to find Lexie, she's in really bad shape and everyone knows she won't make it. Meredith goes to find Derek, leaving Mark and Lexie alone so they can share one final moment before the latter dies.

3 Heart-Shaped Box (8.6)

This is a nostalgic episode for the doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West when Louise O'Malley, George's mother, is admitted after having a botched surgery at a neighboring hospital.

Meredith, Cristina, and Alex, who were interns with George, are happy to see a familiar face and all spend some time with Mrs. O'Malley to catch up and share memories. It was also a fun episode for viewers and a great reminder as to how far this show had come in eight seasons.

The oldest daughter of that family, Lily, is the one with the least amount of injuries, which means she is left to watch as her mother and grandmother pass away, her siblings get rushed into emergency surgery, and her father is put on life support.
