This July, the much-anticipated adaptation of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker from Marvel Comics arrives and new solicitations tease an “unrevealed story” in a new five-part series. When the dead speak and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren’s dark fleet threaten the destroy the remnants of the Resistance, the last Jedi and the Princess of Alderaan must marshal their waning forces against the Sith Eternal. From the moons of Endor, through the nebulous Blood Net to Exegol, Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron lead the last rebellion against the First Order and the shadow of the Empire in The Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the ninth Star Wars story and concludes the Skywalker cycle and the ruinous galactic struggle between the forces of light and darkness. Beyond the Outer Rim, the harrowing voice of Darth Sidous beckons Kylo Ren to the Sith homeworld of Exegol to take command of a massive armada of Star Destroyers, each equipped with devastating Starkiller weaponry and crush the Resistance forever. The Rise of Skywalker welcomes the return of ancient foes and old friends, as the Sith and the Jedi alike gather their forces for the final battle. Kylo Ren and the ghoulish Knights of Ren hunt Rey and her band of Rebels from their hidden base on Ajan Kloss, across the Forbidden Valley on distant Pasaana to frost-covered roofs Kijimi, home to bounty hunters and spice runners.
The Rise of Skywalker novelization from publisher Del Rey features “all-new scenes adapted from never-before-seen material and deleted scenes” which offers perspective into the “unrevealed story” promised in the comic book adaptation from Marvel Comics’ June solicitations. While novelizations and comic book adaptations were traditionally released in tandem with Star Wars film openings, with the original Star Wars #1 comic from 1977 predating the film by one month and a novelization released seven months prior in November 1976, the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker seems like a long time ago. This June, The Rise of Skywalker promises the tale as its been told and the stories that haven’t yet been revealed.
The ghosts of Tatooine and voices of fallen Jedi call Rey from the past and visions of her future drive across the galaxy in search of answers. The Rise of Skywalker novelization delves deeper in the events of the film and untold stories may include the extended scenes of Leia’s Jedi-training with Luke or the Eye of the Webbish Bog that relinquishes the Sith Wayfinder to Kylo Ren “accordance with Lord Vader’s wishes.” Even more intriguing is the relationship between Leia and Rey, as described in Rae Carson’s novel, and what really brought Poe, Chewie, and Finn to the Sinta Glacier Colony to meet Boolio. And what stories remain unrevealed from Kef Bir where the skeletal remains of the fallen Death Star lie half-submerged in the raging oceans of the Endor moon? This June, the final chapter in the Star Wars saga, The Rise of Skywalker arrives from Marvel Comics and, perhaps, what is yet unrevealed will come to light.
