Jungle Cruise & 9 Other Disney Parks Attractions Which Broke Down With Guests On Them

The Disney theme parks around the world are some of the most magical places on Earth. They host the greatest selection of attractions for all visitors, from epic thrill rides to tamer ones for the family. The parks are some of the most-visited tourist destinations and because of that, expectations are high from guests.

The parks are operated 365 days a year and therefore maintenance is done throughout the year. While everything is kept in working condition, inevitably things do go wrong, and the attractions do break down. Sometimes, that just so happens to be with guests onboard!

Because of the rise of social media, those breakdowns are now commonly shared across the internet and with Disney having a high reputation, they make big news. So, within this list, we will take a look at 10 times Disney attractions broke down with guests on them.

10 Jungle Cruise

The most recent example of a Disney attraction breaking down with guests onboard was the popular Jungle Cruise attraction. This beloved ride, which is soon to have its own movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, takes guests through a fun journey on water with animatronic animals all around them.

However, recently one of those boats just so happened to flood! The boat began taking on serious amounts of water, covering all of the seats. The skipper on board managed to help all the guests to safety, hopping off the boat and onto the side, but it was certainly a scary situation.

9 The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure

Another of Disney's slower attractions is The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure. This is an omnimover attraction that goes around different scenes from the classic movie, putting the guests into the heart of the story, and it really is fantastic.

However, during one ride at Disneyland's California Adventure park, some guests got quite the fright. While there was nothing wrong with the ride itself, it was one of the scenes that broke. There is a huge Ursula inside, and during this particular ride, her head actually popped off, yet the body continued to function which is the stuff of nightmares.

8 Ellen's Energy Adventure

Ellen's Energy Adventure ride is sadly no longer operating, as it has been reimagined into something new. However, it used to be located in EPCOT and would take guests through a slow-moving ride that would teach people all about energy.

On the final ever ride it just so happened to break down. There was plenty of speculation that this was done on purpose. Knowing that there would be diehard fans riding it for the last time, Disney actually allowed guests to get off and roam around, taking an up-close look at the animatronics inside.

7 Pirates Of The Caribbean

The Pirates Of The Caribbean attraction is a Disney staple, with different versions being found in the parks around the world. It is also one of the more common Disney rides to breakdown, but this is more of a problem for the cast members than it is for the guests.

When this dark ride breaks down, the strangest thing guests will experience is the lights coming on. It highlights things you're not normally meant to see and is a little strange. But, to move the boats to the nearest and safest exits, the cast members actually have to get into the water and drag them along.

6 Aquatopia

While you might not get wet when Pirates Of The Caribbean breaks down, the same cannot be said for Aquatopia. This ride, which is located at Tokyo DisneySea, is set on water. Therefore, when this breaks down, the vehicles aren't able to get back to the base in the middle for guests to just get off.

The water levels do drop right down, but they don't totally disappear. Because of that, the cast members have to come around with water shoes for everyone so that their personal shoes don't get damaged by the water, making this one attraction you don't want to break down on.

5 The Incredicoaster

Unlike the previous examples, The Incredicoaster is certainly not a tame or slow ride. This is a thrilling rollercoaster that is based around the Pixar movie, The Incredibles. There are only specific spots that the ride can break down, which is mainly on the lift hills when it is being carried up.

During one of the main lift hills, the ride has previously been stuck, leaving guests stranded for quite some time. To make the situation more frightening, the staff have to lock it in and actually drop the rollercoaster backward slightly in order for it to reach the exit stairs.

4 Space Mountain

Speaking of Disney's thrill rides, they don't come more iconic than Space Mountain. This is arguably the most recognizable ride the company has ever created, and it is well known for being a thrilling rollercoaster in the dark. But, when it breaks down people are given a surprising look at it.

As the image above shows, the ride ends up stopping and the lights actually come on, giving everyone a glimpse at all of the steel on show. The trains are then released to ride around until the next available brake run, where they stop to allow people to get off.

3 Haunted Mansion

Another classic ride that has broken down with guests on is the Haunted Mansion. Much like Space Mountain, this is another ride that heavily relies on it being dark, with only certain moments showing light which normally highlight ghosts throughout the ride.

But when this breaks down, the lights all come on and the doom buggies stop. The lights being on certainly provide a very strange feeling to the ride, especially when people end up having to get out of the ride to walk to the nearest exit.

2 It's A Small World

While the past two rides were all about the lights coming on, this example is of the lights going off. During one ride on It's A Small World, the ride ended up having a power outage, which turned all the lights off and left the boats just stuck behind each other.

This was the case until cast members were able to bring them off the ride to safety. Hopefully, the ride's theme song wasn't playing all the way throughout that period, because it would certainly have been a freaky time.

1 Disney Skyliner

The Skyliner is one of the newest additions to the Walt Disney World resort in Florida, and it certainly had some major teething problems. This isn't a ride inside a theme park, but is actually a fun mode of transport guests can take from certain hotels to the theme park entrances.

The Skyliner takes to the sky and gives people an amazing view over the resort, but it then comes back down to drop people off. However, early on in the operation, the Skyliner simply didn't stop and some ended up smashing into each other while guests were inside.
