The wild card of the gang, Charlie Kelly is the heart and soul of the group despite his unpredictable behavior and insane antics. As the janitor of Paddy's Pub, he's in charge of sanitation even though he doesn't do a great job. Outside of his job, Charlie does some questionable things like eating cat food, removing the brakes from cars, and vomiting blood on his date.
The whole gang has done some horrible things, but Charlie never fails to add a dose of absurdity to his lunacy. Here are 10 things Charlie Kelly did on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia that pushed the envelope until it tumbled off the desk, scattering dead mice all over the floor.
10 Kidnapped the Journalist Who Gave a Poor Review
It's no surprise Paddy's Pub is rated as one of the worst bars in Philadelphia. Hospitality isn't their forte, sanitation is non-existent, and the atmosphere is rather grim. But when the gang reads a review from a journalist who frequented their bar, Charlie took matters into his own hands. Kidnapping the journalist, Charlie tried to force the writer to give them a good review, but to no avail. Not only that, but Charlie humiliated the poor man when he had to use the bathroom, touching his genitals and invading his privacy.
9 Vomits on His Date
"Franks Pretty Woman" is one of the best episodes in the series, an extraordinary parody of the classic movie, Pretty Woman. When Charlie attempts to sweet talk a woman with his southern draw, he ends up projectile vomiting his own blood onto the poor woman.
Prior to his date, Charlie consumed numerous blood capsules and blamed his "constituents" for their betrayal. Even worse, there was nowhere to go for both the woman and Charlie while they sat in the car. All Frank could do was offer them an egg in this trying time.
8 Kidnapped the Leprechaun
St. Patricks Day at Paddy's Pub is kind of a big deal, which is why Charlie kidnapped a leprechaun to attend (for good luck, of course). With his mouth duct-taped and tied to a piece of wood, the poor Leprachaun is forced to fend for himself. The gang has no filter, but Charlie has no sense of rationality and sense of right and wrong. This is a prime example of Charlie's lack of cognitive processing. In what way was it a good idea to kidnap a leprechaun? St. Patrick's Day or Chanukah, this was not the right move, Charlie.
7 Beat Up Santa
Arguably one of the best scenes in the series, Charlie's altercation with Santa stands above the rest because of the violence involved. Charlie and Mac may have beat up some kids who stole their bikes, but this took things to a whole other level.
Drawing blood from jolly old St. Nick, Charlie saw his actions as justified considering Santa had slept with his mother.
6 Takes Spaghetti to a Spa Room
The gang lacks empathy, but when Charlie's birthday came around Dee took him to a spa. What could go wrong right? Charlie, being himself, wanted to know the spa's spaghetti policy and brought some of his own in a Ziploc bag. This is why they can't have nice things. Something as simple as a trip to the spa results in Charlie's unbreakable habits clashing with reality.
5 Drank Sunblock
Charlie isn't one to travel, he's never left Philadelphia. However, he finally breaks this streak by joining the gang on their trip to the Jersey shore. Everything goes well at first (oddly enough) until each member's experiences end in disaster. For Charlie, he consumes a bottle of sunblock and spends the night with their waitress.
Though minor issues, Charlie took away their only form of sunscreen and ruined what was otherwise a splendid night for the two lovebirds, gazing at the stars and collecting seashells on the beach.
4 Created a False Dating Profile
Charlie loves the waitress, but when Mac and Dennis convince him to create a dating profile things get out of hand. Not only does he call himself a "full-on rapist" but he sweats through his dress shirt and orders the famous milk steak.
Charlie deliberately wasted his date's time, once again proving he's incapable of being in a romantic relationship. The man ate a block of cheese prior to meeting her. What can you say? He was nervous.
3 Stalks the Waitress
Charlie has stalked the waitress, also known as Nicki Potnick, since the show's inception. He's not manipulative but lacks any sense of responsibility or boundaries, constantly ruining her life.
Not only that, but every glimmer of hope for the two is quickly swatted away with Charlie's antics getting in the way. Imagine these two having a child together, it's a recipe for disaster.
2 Eats Cat Food
This may not interfere with the gang or the citizens of Philadelphia, but it's certainly not good for this health. Charlie's daily consumption of cat food has probably killed a few brain cells (which explains a lot). Why not just try some Nyquil before bed instead? This is one of many odd habits Charlie continues to relish in, seeing no issue with them.
1 Faked His Death
This decision wasn't made by Charlie alone, but still warrants the number spot regardless of Mac's participation. When Mac's father is released from prison, the two believe he's out for revenge, so they decide to fake their own deaths.
Not only that, but they stole Dee's car and credit cards in the process, depriving her of transportation and finances. Charlie felt no remorse for his actions and acted impulsively, making this the worst thing he's ever done.
