10 Smartest Heroes In He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe, Ranked

Masters Of The Universe has been a hot property for Mattel since the early 80s, and the franchise keeps popping back up in one form or another, to this day. With a recently announced animated Netflix reboot series and a potential live-action film in the works, it seems He-Man isn't quite ready for the dust-bin of history just yet.

Today we're taking a look at the 10 smartest characters in the He-Man universe, and we're ranking them from brilliant, to genius-level! Time to take another journey back to Eternia!

10 ORKO

At first glance, Orko is a bumbling buffoon, but that's not entirely accurate, nor fair. In fact, Orko is quite intelligent, albeit lacking in self-awareness. This Trollan magician was highly skilled on his homeworld, but the loss of a magic amulet prevented him from controlling his powers on Eternia, where the laws of nature differ.

Although not as educated or intellectual as others on this list, Orko was quick-witted enough to foil several of Skeletor's plans, even going so far as to beat him in a battle of magic in the comic book series.

9 TEELA

Man-At-Arms' adopted daughter Teela bears all the rashness and ill-temperament of a young kid, but she's also an accomplished fighter and a master tactician to boot. This might have something to do with her lineage, given she's the daughter of the Sorceress of Grayskull.

Teela may not be a fountain of knowledge due to her youth, but her quick wits, keen intellect and common sense more than make up for it, even if she usually finds herself getting into trouble!

8 KING RANDOR

Originally a Captain in Eternia's army, Randor would one day rise to the seat of power as King, a position he did not feel ready or qualified for. However, under his leadership, Eternia enjoyed many years of peace until Skeletor revealed himself as a major threat.

Randor's wisdom is unparalleled, thanks to his role as King. While he may not be an expert in technology or history, his experiences have turned him into one of the most intelligent characters in the MOTU series.

7 MEKANECK

This unique character's ability to extend his neck would make Inspector Gadget jealous, but it did serve him well as a companion to He-Man. Mekaneck received his signature ability from Man-At-Arms after suffering a series of neck injuries. He was a capable warrior in battle, easily standing alongside his compatriots thanks to his strength.

Mekaneck's unique powers made him an expert at spying and reconnaissance missions. It was his job to gather intel and assess a situation; an easy feat for someone with such a long neck!

6 MAN-AT-ARMS

The fellow known as Man-At-Arms is actually named Duncan, a master fighter, military tactician and General in Eternia's Royal guard. He's one of only three who know the secret identities of He-Man and Battle Cat, and his history with the Sorceress is deep and complex.

As a skilled inventor, Man-At-Arms is a technical genius. This intellectual prowess puts him a cut above many of his contemporaries while proving just how invaluable he is to the team of heroes the reside in Grayskull.

5 MAN-E-FACES

This natural-born thespian used his talents to survive in a world that had shunned him, due to his unique ability to switch between three separate faces at will. After escaping the will of Beast-Man in an effort to turn him into one of Skeletor's henchmen, Man-E-Faces was welcomed into Eternia's Royal Court to pursue his dream of acting.

Although he does not feature prominently in the 1980s TV show, the 2002 reboot brought his character more to the forefront. Here, Man-E-Faces received buffs depending on which face he took at any given moment. Specifically, his robot face would give him a major boost in intellectual prowess, even so far as to make him a chess champion.

4 HE-MAN

The principal hero himself might look like a strong man lacking in grey matter, but nothing could be further from the truth. Actually, He-Man is a very intelligent hero who prefers to use his superhuman strength for purposes other than beating the pants off his enemies. He's also a calculated thinker who understands the importance of taking a step back and assessing a situation with a broader view. This has allowed him to avoid unnecessary conflicts with seemingly dangerous threats, instead using compromise and diplomacy to win the day.

He-Man also uses his vast intelligence to stop naturally occurring threats from harming others, such as volcanoes and lava flows. Whenever possible, He-Man will always use his skills of perception and logic to conquer a problem, rather than relying on his fists.

3 ROBOTO

This robot is definitely one of the smartest characters in the MOTU franchise, thanks largely to his computerized deductive capabilities. His origin story flip-flops between being a creation of Man-At-Arms and a visitor from another world, but the 2002 series would opt for the former.

Roboto only appeared in one episode of the classic Filmation series, but the 2002 reboot allowed the character to flesh out. It was his intelligence quotient which determined the best way of dealing with an attack of bone monsters led by the villain Tri-Klops - namely, attacking Tri-Klops himself.

2 THE SORCERESS

This incredibly wise character had humble beginnings in the village of Nowella, which was attacked by the villain Morgoth and the Evil Horde. She fled to Grayskull, where she was imbued with the castle's power, turning her into the Sorceress. This allowed her to save her village and free her people, before taking on official duties as protector of Castle Grayskull.

Her access to vast repositories of history and magic, the Sorceress is one of the most intelligent heroes of the MOTU series, by far. Her ability to see into the past and future gives her great insight which has proven invaluable to He-Man and the Masters on countless occasions.

1 ZODAC

Zodac bears the distinction of being the most intelligent hero in the MOTU franchise, due to the fact that he's a cosmic being who literally sees and knows all. His powers are difficult to quantify, but he was able to construct a false conflict between He-Man and Skeletor, purely for the purpose of testing He-Man's resolve when faced with the temptation of achieving ultimate power over the universe.

As a member of the Council of the Wise, Zodac has access to unlimited knowledge that dwarfs even that of the Sorceress. There has been some confusion as to whether the character is good or evil, as differing media tends to portray him either as a villain, or in the case of the TV show, as benevolent.
