The Rock Shows Off Black Adam Physique With New Workout Photos

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has officially begun physically training for his upcoming role in the DC Universe film Black Adam. Over the past decade, Johnson has turned from a former wrestling superstar into one of the best leading actors in Hollywood, starring in everything from Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw to Disney films like Jungle Cruise.

The upcoming Black Adam movie will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and is said to be the first introduction of DC Comics' Justice Society of America. With the same Director of Photography (Lawrence Sher) as another recent DC film, JokerBlack Adam has previously been reported to want to try and "reshape" the idea of what a comic book movie is. Although the Black Adam character appears as more of a villain in the comics, for instance, Dwayne Johnson has stated he wants his version to be more of an anti-hero.

Now, thanks to Johnson himself, fans are aware the physical training for his role as Black Adam has officially begun. The actor posted a series of photos on his Instagram page earlier today showing him in the process of working out, and he also shared a short Black Adam animation with the comment, "Kickin' off 2020 training extremely hard for my upcoming role as BLACK ADAM. This one's in my blood." Check out the images below:

With additional comments underneath his workout photos containing statements such as "The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change" and "new era," it looks as if The Rock's first foray into the DCEU is going to shake things up for everyone involved. While it's unknown how Black Adam will tie into the current slate of other upcoming DC superhero films, or just how much his on-screen depiction will differ from the Black Adam comics, it looks as if all the pieces are slowly falling into place before filming begins this summer.

While most people may consider The Rock's everyday physique to be almost superhuman in nature, clearly even someone as muscular as Dwayne Johnson must put time and effort into preparing for comic book movies like Black Adam. Although his eventual super suit will likely end up with some sort of padding (as they all do) the extra effort will definitely not go unnoticed on the screen, and Johnson's dedication and closeness with the source material will hopefully provide viewers with a satisfying portrayal when Black Adam comes to theaters next year.
