Almost everyone in the Arrowverse's Earth Prime is unaware that Crisis On Infinite Earths remade the Multiverse, but DC's Legends of Tomorrow unexpectedly got around this conundrum thanks to one of history's greatest villains: Grigori Rasputin (Michael Eklund). The Arrowverse's weirdest superhero show kicked off its post-Crisis season 5 with a zany caper in 1919 Imperial Russia where Rasputin, who was resurrected from Hell, tried to kill the Romanovs and take over the country. But the Legends' encounter with the evil Russian mystic especially impacted Nate Heywood (Nick Zano); Steel partly remembered his lost love Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe), who vanished from the timeline at the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 4.
After Crisis ended with Oliver Queen AKA The Spectre rebirthing the Multiverse and merging all of the Arrowverse shows into one world, Earth Prime, only the heroes who fought the Anti-Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) remembered how things were before Crisis. J'onn J'onzz AKA the Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) used his telepathic powers to return the memories of the Paragons' loved ones, like Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), the sister of Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Meanwhile, The Flash's Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) used technology to return pre-Crisis memories, like Arrow's Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara) in Star City 2040, However, the Legends are outliers in the Arrowverse and, since the Waverider's crew are caught up in their own n0n-Crisis chaos, apparently, no one dropped by the Waverider to clue them in.
Things get even more complicated because, in their final battle with the demon Neron at Heyworld, Zari sacrificed herself at the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 4 to bring Nate back to life. This wiped Zari from the timeline so that she never joined the Legends and she was replaced by her brother Behrad (Shayan Sobhian). Yet Zari's sacrifice and the altered timeline were preserved by Oliver Queen when he created Earth Prime's revised reality and none of the Legends, especially Nate, remember Zari was once part of the team - until they met Rasputin in the Legends of Tomorrow season 5 premiere, "Meet the Legends".
Fresh from Hell and gifted with immortality and supernatural powers like mesmerism, Rasputin plotted revenge against his former benefactors, the Romanovs. When battling the Legends, the Mad Monk was able to mind control several of the heroes and he hypnotized Nate so that Steel was able to remember "a woman... she's beautiful... with silky raven hair... and she's stuffing her face with donuts" - a perfect description of Zari. Although Nate couldn't remember Zari's name, he had already been suffering the lingering feeling that something had changed but not knowing what even before the Crisis (which he wasn't invited to). Thus, Rasputin's hypnotism allowed Nate to remember the time before Crisis On Infinite Earths and the timeline Zari changed to save his life.
After the Legends took down Rasputin (in a disgusting fashion similar to some fans' Avengers: Endgame Thanus theory), Nate and Behrad repaired Gideon; the Waverider's A.I. had been glitching since the Crisis and she detected the change that happened at Heyworld. Nate was able to see a hologram message Zari left behind because she knew she was changing history, urging Nate to find her. Unfortunately, the Legends can't rely on Rasputin's help again since John Constantine drank some of the Russian's remains in order to return to Hell.
This is the latest instance in the Arrowverse of characters remembering what the world was like before Crisis; besides the superheroes who recall the previous Multiverse, Supergirl established that there are alien refugees from other Earths who took refuge in National City. But typically, Legends of Tomorrow is operating under its own rules so that Nate (and very likely the other Legends soon) recalls that they altered their own timeline before the Anti-Monitor started the Crisis. And, since this is Legends of Tomorrow, after all, who needs Cisco or the Martian Manhunter when they inadvertently had the help of Grigori Rasputin?
