It looks as if Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian is Amazon's number one best-selling holiday item. Originally unveiled to the public only a few weeks ago at the end of The Mandalorian's first episode, Baby Yoda has quickly become a worldwide sensation, leading to hundreds of Baby Yoda memes being spread across all corners of the internet and even spawning a Baby Yoda GIF controversy which was as confusing as it was short-lived.
It isn't hard to see why both The Mandalorian viewers and even tangential Star Wars fans have fallen in love with Baby Yoda, the character's endearment due in no small part to its adorable nature, big eyes and ears, and helplessness twinged with attitude, a characterization which has seen Baby Yoda becoming the focal point of many, many internet jokes over the past few weeks. Although Disney may not have predicted just how big of a deal Baby Yoda would be upon its unveiling, it's now clear the company was not prepared to deal with just how excited fans were about Star Wars' latest puppet creature.
Now, as reported on Thinkum, fans know Baby Yoda is the most-wanted toy this holiday season, according to a compilation of Amazon sales data estimates. Even as a pre-order, the Funko Pop! version of The Child, as Baby Yoda is officially known in Star Wars canon, ranks as the number one best-seller on Amazon, and one which finds itself completely sold out at the time of this writing.
According to the Thinkum report, pre-order slots for Baby Yoda's Funko Pop! are currently being sold for nearly $130, roughly fifteen times the collectible's original cost. Such an incredible upcharge is surely due to the fact Disney hasn't really released much in the way of Baby Yoda merchandise yet, a strange move for the company and one which indicates they had no idea the adorable protagonist would be the highlight of The Mandalorian and, according to many fans, recent Star Wars itself.
Now that viewers are five episodes into The Mandalorian and the love for Baby Yoda hasn't seem to abated in the slightest, it's safe to say the furry little creature has now cemented itself in the public consciousness. Although long-time Star Wars fans are surely saddened the series' film franchise will be coming to an end with this month's release of The Rise of Skywalker, it's beginning to looks as if mere love for Baby Yoda alone will keep people invested in the Star Wars universe, and by connection The Mandalorian, into the foreseeable future.
