Nina Dobrev’s 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Roles According to Rotten Tomatoes

Nina Dobrev is a talented actress best known for her work on shows like The Vampire Diaries, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and the recently canceled CBS sitcom, FAM. Hailing from Canada, the Bulgarian actress has made quite the splash in Hollywood since landing the role of doppelganger Elena Gilbert on The CW's epic vampire series.

Since then, she has mostly gravitated toward film projects. FAM was her first return to television since she left The Vampire Diaries in its sixth season. However, Dobrev has also had some duds in her career. Here are her five best and five worst roles according to Rotten Tomatoes.

10 Best: Dog Days (60%)

Dog Days is a romantic comedy film in the vein of previous movies like New Year's Eve, Mother's Day, and Valentine's Day. It follows multiple couples all with dog-related storylines. Dobrev plays Elizabeth, a famous newscaster who is saddled with a new co-anchor that she can't stand.

However, ultimately they fall in love through a shared bonding experience involving their dogs. While Dog Days was somewhat forgettable, it managed to score a 60 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes due to its sweet sincerity.

9 Worst: xXx: Return of Xander Cage (45%)

Dobrev got to play the comedic relief in this movie as Becky the techie, a weapons specialist. The movie is part of the popular Xander Cage franchise that stars Vin Diesel.

Dobrev has been outspoken about how much fun she had filming an action-comedy film after spending so many years on a vampire drama series. However, critics were not keen on this film, nor are they fans of the franchise at large. It only managed to get an approval rating of 45 percent, making it rotten.

8 Best: The Final Girls (72%)

This is one of the few horror movies that Dobrev has been part of although it's not a regular horror. It's a horror-comedy film that pokes fun at the slasher genre at large. Dobrev plays Vicki Summers, a popular girl who is part of the gang that gets sucked into a slasher film.

She and the rest of her friends have to find a way to survive by playing along with the rules of the genre. Most people really enjoyed The Final Girls. Critics were fond of the film's heart and genuine laughs. It received a fresh score from the critic aggregator.

7 Worst: Flatliners (4%)

The odds of a Flatliners remake being successful were already slim, to begin with, but critics, and audiences, truly hated this film. It has an extremely abysmal score on RT with only 4% of critics enjoying it. That's a really rotten score.

Dobrev was one of the better parts of the film as one of the main characters, Marlo. Her character was one of the medical students who gets involved in the "flatlining" experiment. But unfortunately, neither she nor co-stars Ellen Page or Diego Luna could save this mess of a movie.

6 Best: The Perks of Being a Wallflower (86%)

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a genuinely good movie based on the book of the same name written by Stephen Chbosky. Sadly, many of Dobrev's best scenes are cut of the movie, although you can view them in the deleted scenes if you purchase the DVD. She played Candice Kelmeckis, Charlie's sister.

Her role in the theatrical cut is basically a glorified cameo because all the excellent material between her and her brother wound up on the cutting room floor. The main reason is that there was a subplot involving Candace getting an abortion and the producers didn't want to lose their PG-13 rating by adding that. The film was given a Certified Fresh seal and ranked at 86 percent approval.

5 Worst: Let's Be Cops (19%)

Let's Be Cops is a comedy film that starred Nina Dobrev as Josie the waitress, the romantic interest of Damon Wayans Jr.'s character.

While Dobrev is one of the film's leads and she commits to her performance, overall the movie was panned by critics and forgotten about by audiences. It was given a rotten approval score of only 19 percent overall.

4 Best: The Vampire Diaries (85%)

The Vampire Diaries was Nina Dobrev's breakout role and what she is most remembered for. In this series, she gave some astonishing performances given the amount of work she had to do playing a grand total of four different characters.

Even though the quality dipped a little in the later seasons, The Vampire Diaries still had an overall fresh approval score of 85 percent. It ran for eight seasons and managed to produce two spin-off series. The series helped define The CW and make the network what it is today.

3 Worst: FAM (40%)

FAM is Dobrev's most recent television project. She starred in this CBS sitcom earlier this year. Dobrev reunited with her Dog Days co-star Tone Bell to play a couple who recently got engaged.

Except while Nick and Clem are celebrating the happy occasion, they get saddled with taking care of Clem's troublemaking younger sister, Shannon. Audiences seemed to enjoy FAM at first but audience numbers quickly dwindled and the show was canceled after only one season. Critics only gave it a 40 percent approval rating making it rotten.

2 Best: Away From Her (94%)

Away From Her is Dobrev's most critically-acclaimed project by far. The film has a Certified Fresh rating and a high approval score of 94 percent. However, Dobrev's role is minimal.

Away From Her is a dramatic film about a married couple who struggles to keep their relationship afloat when the wife develops Alzheimer's and moves into a nursing home. Dobrev is almost unrecognizable in this movie in her tiny role. She has short hair with pink streaks and rocks an edgy punk look complete with some facial piercings.

1 Worst: The Roommate (4%)

Like Flatliners, The Roommate was one of Dobrev's worst roles. She stars alongside several other notable teen drama actors like Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, and Danneel Harris but overall the thriller falls quite flat.

The movie is basically a remake of the classic Single White Female. Dobrev is only in one scene and she is the former victim of Meester's stalker character. It only managed to get a rotten approval score of 4 percent.
