Fantastic Four Fan Art Casts John Krasinski & Emily Blunt In MCU

A Fantastic Four fan has depicted Hollywood power couple, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, as Marvel's Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. Earlier this year Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in a $71 billion super-deal that brought everyone from Deadpool and the X-Men to the Fantastic Four under the Marvel umbrella. Now that Marvel has acquired the rights to Fox’s roster of comic book heroes, fans are having a lot of fun speculating about who will inhabit the wide variety of superheroes now available to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actors and actresses are often fan cast for certain roles based upon characteristic similarities to prospective roles. Because they are one of the most successful and charismatic husband-wife duos in Hollywood, many Fantastic Four fans think Krasinski and Blunt would be a perfect fit for a future franchise.

Superhero team-ups have gained a massive amount of popularity in comic book movie adaptations, starting with X-Men in 2000 and hitting a cultural climax recently with Avengers: Endgame. One of the first team-ups in comic book history was that of the Fantastic Four, with the original lineup consisting of the Thing, Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic, and Invisible Woman. Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Susan Storm (Invisible Woman) quickly became one of the most iconic couples in comic book history. After Richards, Ben Grimm (the Thing), and Johnny Storm (the Human Torch) go to space and receive cosmic upgrades, the couple eventually gets married and has multiple children. It seems only natural that fans want two of the most popular and talented thespians in Hollywood (who also happen to be married) to portray these characters. Many celebrities have been imagined in these roles, but the fantastic pairing of Krasinski and Blunt have been the fandom's top choice for many years now.

Krasinski and Blunt have appeared as Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman in previous fan art, but a new depiction of the couple as MCU heroes is getting a lot of attention on social media. The most recent Fantastic Four fan art to feature Krasinski and Blunt comes from artist Rob Brunette via his Instagram page. You can check it out below:

While it remains to be seen if the pair will take on these roles, we do know that Krasinski would “love” to play Mr. Fantastic. When the actor/director sat down with Screen Rant earlier this year to discuss A Quiet Place, he spoke about the fan casting.

Oh yeah, the Fantastic Four. I would love that! I mean listen, I’m still getting into the whole superhero thing. I didn’t read comics as a kid, not as many, I read some but not as much, but I’m a huge superhero fan so yeah, I’d love to do something like that. If there are any left, a lot of these have been taken but the ones that are left, yeah; I would love to do something like that. And listen, I’d love to work with her again so any chance I got would be great.

Not only is Krasinski interested, but both Krasinski and Blunt have been associated with roles in the MCU before —  Krasinski auditioned for the role of Steve Rogers and Blunt turned down the roles of Black Widow and Peggy Carter. On top of this, some fans believe that comic book illustrations of the characters have begun to resemble Krasinski and Blunt. Hollywood has yet to deliver a Fantastic Four adaptation that lives up to the source material, and the casting of top-tier talent in the form of Krasinski and Blunt would go a long way in bringing credibility to future fantastic franchise films. Of course, fans may have to wait a long time. Kevin Feige has said that the next half-decade of Marvel movies is already planned out, so it will be a while before Storm and Richards make it into the MCU.

Given Marvel’s success with so many other adaptations, long-time fans are excited to see how the media conglomerate will incorporate the characters in future films. Since many fans were disappointed with Fox's recent attempt to reboot the franchise, hopes are high that Marvel — possibly with an assist from Krasinski and Blunt — will finally give Fantastic Four fans the adaptation they've been waiting for for decades.
