Spider-Man and Venom Are Switching Bodies (Yes, Really)

Fans may not think it, but Spider-Man has an oddly rich history when it comes to swapping bodies. He perhaps most famously swapped bodies with a dying Doctor Octopus, creating Dan Slott's Superior Spider-Man series (before eventually fighting his way back through his subconscious). And more recently, Peter Parker accidentally traded minds with with Ms. Marvel as part of the Marvel Team-Up series--forcing the heroes to learn eachother's superpowers. But for Spider-Man's next Freaky Friday adventure he's going to learn what it's like to be one of his most iconic enemies... or anti-hero, depending on where each Venom fan falls.

In a new 4-part mini-series from writer Mariko Tamaki and Gurihiru, Peter Parker and Eddie Brock will finally be forced to walk a mile in the other's shoes. Well, technically, in the other's feet. But given the pair's relationship, the tale of Spider-Man/Venom: Double Trouble isn't going to go smoothly. But since this book is intended for readers age 12+, fans don't need to worry about it getting too rough, either.

The premise of the mini-series raises some obvious questions, since the Venom symbiote communicates with Eddie's mind to form their bond. You can swap whose consciousness is in whose body all you want, but the symbiote won't be fooled for a moment (right?). Will this mean the symbiote will make the change along with Eddie, taking over Peter's body as a team? That remains to be seen, but the bigger question is how the minds of these two characters actually get swapped in the first place--and why. Based on the first cover for the series, there may be some clues. Take a look:

Looking at the skyline on the cover, it makes sense for The Daily Bugle building to be clearly visible, as one of the most classic Spider-Man locations. But there also looks to be 177A Bleecker Street a.k.a the Sanctum Sanctorum represented, the iconic home of Doctor Stephen Strange. The sight of this building could indicate a connection to the magical realm, as to either the cause of the mind swap, or a possible solution. Either way, the early plot synopses for the series promise more than a few surprising turns when it begins on November 6th, 2019.

You've seen 'em duke it out in the Marvel Universe for years, but prepare to see Spidey and Venom as you never have before: as begrudging... buddies? It's fun of the freaky variety this time around, as an unexpected mind-swap sets Spidey and Venom in each other's bodies! But WHO swapped them, and why?! From Mariko Tamaki and Gurihiru comes an all-new take on your favorite arch-Frienemies in the MU - and now they've gotta work together to set things right!

Venom for the Win! After switching bodies with Spider-Man, Venom returns to the world of athletic competition reality shows! Wait, what? Can Spidey find a way to swap them back before Venom ruins his reputation?

Spider-Man & Venom: Double Trouble #1 will arrive on November 6th, 2019.
