Facebook Watch's The Birch Teaser Trailer | Screen Rant

Facebook Watch continues to push forward with its plans for the social media behemoth to  deliver original shows to its legions of users worldwide, with the latest being The Birch. The upcoming horror series is the one of two brand new shows premiering in October on the little site that Zuckerberg built. They follow in the footsteps of Strangers, Queen America, Five Points, Sacred Lies, and the critically acclaimed Sorry For Your Loss, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and Kelly Marie Tran.

The Birch will be part of Facebook Watch’s one-two punch of new series in October, alongside the Jessica Biel thriller, Limetown. Both new series will follow the season 2 premiere of Sorry For Your Loss, which continues to tell the story of Leigh (Olsen) as she continues to move forward with her life in the wake of her husband’s sudden death. While Sorry For Your Loss is an emotional family drama from creator Kit Steinkellner, Limetown and The Birch will bring a little genre fare to Facebook Watch, with the first being an all-out horror series with creepy monsters and beleaguered teens.

According to Facebook Watch, “The series is produced by the masters of monsters, Crypt TV, and stars Midori Francis (Good Boys, Ocean’s Eight, Gotham) as Lanie Bouchard, Xaria Dotson (American Vandal) as Evie Grayson, and Dempsey Bryk (Black Mirror, The Silence) as Thurston Polk.” As far as new series go, October is the best time for the unlikely streaming service to launch its  foray into horror territory. And from the looks of things, it would appear The Birch isn’t holding anything back in terms of its supernatural content. Take a look at the teaser trailer below:

Once you summon her, you never escape her. The Birch premieres October 11th, only on Facebook Watch.

There’s not much in the way of story to go on, other than it appears the Birch is a monster that lives up to its namesake and apparently torments those who summon it. Why anyone would summon something that is A) clearly a monster, and B) hell bent on punishing people for doing so remains to be seen, but perhaps the answers to those questions and more are all part of the show’s appeal.

If nothing else, it appears The Birch has a solid grasp on its creepy atmosphere, even with the monster being shown in all its glory. Whether or not that will be enough to get Facebook users to tune in and watch this new original remains to be seen, but it nevertheless looks to be a creepy pre-Halloween offering.
