The Last Man Trailer: Hayden Christensen Prepares for the Apocalypse

Lionsgate unveils a new trailer for the upcoming apocalyptic film The Last Man, starring Hayden Christensen and Harvey Keitel. Christensen, of course, received the opportunity of a lifetime earlier this century when he took on the part of Anakin Skywalker in the latter two Star Wars prequels. But due to those films' mixed receptions, the actor quickly faded from the spotlight and has had a relatively quiet career in the years since. Christensen's roles are now few and far between, and he's largely targeted low-profile projects like American Heist and Little Italy. That trend continues with The Last Man, which previously went by the title Numb, At the Edge of the End.

In the film, Christensen portrays Kurt, a war veteran suffering from PTSD who begins making preparations for the end of the world. Keitel co-stars as Noe, a prophet-type figure who makes grand proclamations about the impending Armageddon. Marketing for The Last Man has actually existed since May 2017, when the first teaser trailer came out. But now that it's nearing its premiere date in select theaters and VOD, a fresh preview is now available to check out.

As an exclusive to Screen Rant, Lionsgate released the new Last Man trailer, which looks to shed further light on the story. Check it out in the space below.

The trailer does a very good job of establishing The Last Man's dark and unsettling vibe, portraying Kurt as a man nearing the end of his rope. The former soldier is haunted by a recurring nightmare and dreads what's coming next. He looks to take action upon learning (from Noe's TV report) that a lightning storm will wipe out all life on Earth, but those that appear to be closest to Kurt think he's just snapping. All in all, it seems like an intriguing setup for a film, and it'll be interesting to see how things play out. The Last Man director Rodrigo H. Vila has experience with documentaries about conspiracies, so he should prove to be a solid fit for this material. The validity of Noe's claims is obviously open for debate, so there could be something nefarious afoot that Kurt uncovers.

Christensen's performances as Anakin received some criticism, but a convincing case can be made that was more a product of the writing and directing than the actor's talent. To his credit, Christensen has delivered strong turns in the past, most notably for Life as a House (where he earned a Golden Globe nomination). Kurt is poised to be a fascinating role for Christensen to explore, providing the thespian with some juicy material to showcase his range. Hopefully it all works out and The Last Man can leave an impression when it comes out early next year.
