Production on season 6 of the Starz drama Power - produced by rapper/actor 50 Cent - shuts down following the tragic death of a crew member. On the surface, working on a film or TV show's set doesn't sound like the most dangerous job in the world, and generally, it isn't. Sometimes though, unfortunate accidents do occur on set that result in serious injury or death to a member of the crew or cast.
One of the most infamous instances of such a tragedy happened on 1994 comic book adaptation The Crow, in which star Brandon Lee was killed during a stunt gone wrong involving a prop gun. A more recent example happened on the set of the upcoming film starring Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers, as sound mixer James M. Emswiller, passed away after falling off a balcony. Over in the realm of series TV, Walking Dead stuntman John Bernecker died in 2017 due to a brain injury he sustained from falling 30 feet onto a concrete floor.

Sadly, today brought with it another on-set tragedy, as a production assistant working on the Starz drama series Power lost his life after being fatally struck by an SUV. According to Deadline, 63-year-old Pedro Jiminez was hit by the vehicle early Monday morning while setting up traffic cones in advance of location shooting in Brooklyn, New York. Police are investigating the incident, and the driver - also a Power crew member - remained at the scene. As a result of Jiminez's death, production on Power has been shut down for now.
Making the circumstances extra sad for the Power cast and crew is that Jiminez had been working on the series since its first day of production back in 2013. Given that fact, it's not surprising that there's no current timetable for when Power's sixth season will resume filming. Production was already expected to take a holiday break fairly soon, so it's possible filming doesn't resume until after the new year. It all depends on when those involved feel that they're ready to return to work.
Power - created by Courtney A. Kemp, produced by 50 Cent, and starring Omari Hardwick - has long been one of Starz's most watched original programs, and is regularly renewed before its current season even finishes. While today's tragic events certainly won't be forgotten, there's no question production on Power season 6 will kick back into gear within the next month or two, after the rest of its cast and crew members have had time to grieve their loss. Hopefully police are able to determine exactly how and why Jiminez's death occurred, and producers are able to implement safety measures designed to make sure nothing similar happens in the future.
