Elseworlds Star Wants Superman & Lois Lane Arrowverse Spinoff

The Arrowverse's Lois Lane, Elizabeth Tulloch, wants her version of the character and Superman to get their own spinoff. Tulloch's Lois was introduced in the first part of the DC TV multiverse's annual crossover event, this year titled "Elseworlds." Lois, alongside the returning character of Clark Kent/Superman, made her debut on The Flash, as Barry Allen and Oliver Queen traveled to Supergirl's Earth to try and figure out why the two of them had been "body swapped."

Lois' time in the first of three parts of the crossover was brief. She was introduced spending time with Clark and his cousin Kara at Kent Farm in Smallville, and only featured in a few scenes. These scenes introduced her character's personality and potentially set up bigger events down the road for Clark and Lois's romance, whether it's in Elseworlds or during the remainder of Supergirl season 4. Given her strong debut though, there could be potentially be a much bigger destiny for Lois (and Clark) in the Arrowverse.

There are currently no plans or even serious discussion of a Lois and Clark spinoff being in the works. The only spinoff that will potentially come out of Elseworlds is a series starring Ruby Rose's Batwoman. However in an interview with TV Line, Tulloch opened up about the possibility of a Lois and Superman-centered spin0ff, and her interest in making it a reality. When asked if there's a foundation for a spinoff in "Elseworlds," Tulloch explained:

Potentially, and it was something I sort of talked to one of the producers about. I think it’ll depend on how this is reviewed and a bunch of other external factors that nobody has really that much control over. I know Tyler and I would love to come back and work more together. We fortunately had great chemistry, which is not always a given.

Tulloch's comments obviously aren't any kind of confirmation that a Superman spinoff series will hit The CW anytime soon. However, they do at least sound promising, especially since one factor for the spinoff's creation might already have been achieved. The initial response to Tulloch's Lois has been very positive. In her brief scenes during "Elseworlds: Part One," Tulloch managed to show off Lois Lane's famous fiery spirit, as well as her playfully antagonistic (at times) romance with Superman and Clark Kent. There's clearly more to do with Lois too. Even if fans do like the Arrowverse's Superman and Lois, that doesn't mean a spinoff could go into production immediately.

DC and Warner Bros. have always had a bit more leeway in bringing Superman to TV than Batman, who still remains MIA in the Arrowverse. This doesn't mean the Arrowverse can support a Superman series though. Supergirl has already used or is planning to use many classic villains and storylines from the Superman comics, as Jon Cryer has been cast as Lex Luthor and Kara has already been confirmed to be stronger than Superman. This isn't even mentioning that a Superman series, Metropolis, focusing on a completely different Lois Lane, is in the works for the streaming platform DC Universe. The Arrowverse's Superman and by extension Lois Lane might be better served as supporting characters on Supergirl. Stranger things have definitely occurred in the Arrowverse though, so one shouldn't say never to a Superman and Lois Lane spinoff.
