Dragon Ball Super: Broly Anime Film Debuts New TV Spots Ahead Of US Release

Three new snippets of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly film have been revealed via a series of TV spots ahead of the film’s US release. The English dub of Dragon Ball Super: Broly will release in January 2019, giving fans plenty of time to break down the scenes presented in the ads.

The upcoming anime film will be a canonical retelling of Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan. Previously, the Broly character wasn’t considered a “true” part of the Dragon Ball universe due to never appearing in Akira Toriyama’s manga. That changed for this incarnation of the story, however. Toriyama wrote the script for the film himself and has established that the events in Dragon Ball Super: Broly occur after the events of the Dragon Ball Super anime series. Though Broly still hasn’t appeared in the manga, his film received a novelization by Masatoshi Kusakabe, known for his Naruto novelizations.

Earlier today, Anime News Network spotted that Toei Animation had posted three new teasers for Dragon Ball Super: Broly on their YouTube page. The spots will be airing on television as part of the media blitz to bring people into the theater to see the latest Dragon Ball movie. Though each one is only 15 seconds long, Toei packed a lot of small bits of eye candy into each second of runtime.

Each ad manages to show quite a bit of action, like Broly powering up an energy beam in his mouth and preparing to throw a colossal green energy orb. Small moments like series mainstays Goku and Vegeta teaming up to fire a double energy blast, the destruction of Goku’s home world, and the appearance of Golden Frieza make these interesting for fans of Dragon Ball, though dedicated fans might recognize a chunk of the footage from previous trailers.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly seems as though it’s going to be a treat for longtime Dragon Ball fans, especially now that the series has armed its central characters with all manner of fun tricks to use to hopefully outmatch the insanely powerful Broly. Let’s not forget that one of his first acts in the original film was wiping out an entire galaxy. One interesting thing to note is that the ad that shows the longest uncut clips features Gogeta - a fusion of Goku and Vegeta - doing battle with Broly, which may be a hint at the pivotal role fused characters will play in the movie. Overall, these bits of footage don’t offer much in the way of new information, but the kinetic action and explosions sure are nice to look at.
