Red Dead Online Beta Coming "Towards End" of November

During a Take-Two Interactive quarterly earnings call it was confirmed that the Red Dead Online beta, the first phase of the multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2, will indeed come at the end of November.

The Q2 2019 Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. Earnings Conference Call and Q&A occurred yesterday at 4:30 PM EST, where CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that the much anticipated Red Dead Online beta will launch "towards the end of the month." Zelnick defers to Rockstar Games, explaining that they will have "a lot more" to say about it shortly.

With 17 million units shipped already, and growing, Red Dead Redemption 2 became the biggest entertainment launch of all-time, beating even Grand Theft Auto V. Though to be fair, GTA V's launches were spread across two console generations and a third, later, for the PC build. By comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 only released on PS4 and Xbox Oneand while not official (in an effort to again, double dip on consumers), it's expected to release on PC in the future. Our guess is next holiday season.

In the meantime, Red Dead Redemption 2 is dominating the charts on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One going into the 2018 holiday season, and the Red Dead Online component not only bolsters that sales potential for Take-Two, but it guarantees them a long tail of cash cow revenue. The online component for GTA V has given it an incredibly successful and sustainable life, keeping it high in sales charts, and constantly earning revenue via microtransactions while Rockstar frequently updates it with new features and content.

Rockstar devs explained across multiple interviews that they're taking the best parts of Grand Theft Auto Online and building off of that, and the slower paced open-world of Red Dead Redemption 2 to build something unique and better with Red Dead Online. Given the size and ambition behind this, Red Dead Online is releasing in a beta form first to hammer out expected bugs, issues, and potential server problems (given the player counts).

At the moment it's been confirmed that Red Dead Online will support 32 players (two more than Grand Theft Auto Online) across its game world, the same large map from the main RDR2 campaign. For more details on the leaks and rumors, the potential battle royale mode, and things players can do in Red Dead Online (adversary modes, lodgings, etc.) head here.
