Marvel fans around the Los Angeles area are paying tribute to Stan Lee at his Walk of Fame star on Hollywood Boulevard. The comic legend passed away yesterday after struggling with health problems this year, including a rather serious case of pneumonia.
Stan Lee is credited with creating and co-creating several of Marvel's most iconic characters, and throughout his long career has had a strong impact on both the comic book world and film industry. As a result, thousands of fans have paid tribute to the comic legend, including celebrities who have taken to social media to honor Lee and pay their respects, including Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Hamill, and Kevin Feige. Now, the celebration of Lee's long and impactful career has extended to his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Dustin Sandoval, VP of digital marketing for Walt Disney Studios, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm, shared a picture of Lee's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his personal Twitter account. Marvel fans have left a shrine of flowers, pictures, candles, and notes in honor of Lee, with one of his own quotes about the definition of what makes a "real superhero" written inside a traditional comic book speech bubble. Among the usual items one might find at a shrine, fans also left him Spider-Man comic books, action figures, and a plastic Oscar statuette that reads "Best Hero." Lee received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.
In the last few years of his life, Lee struggled with health issues and even filed a restraining order against his former business manager following reports of elder abuse. He also lost his wife of 69 years, Joan Lee, when she passed away last year at the age of 95. However, despite the hardships Lee faced in his life, he maintained an active relationship with fans (just this past summer, he sent his regards when he missed San Diego Comic-Con) and cameoed in several superhero movies based on his own work, beginning with The Trial of the Incredible Hulk in 1989. Given his lasting impact on the entertainment industry, many have acknowledged that Lee can never be replaced.
There have been many celebrity deaths in 2018, but Lee was one figure who transcended a number of creative mediums, including comic books and film. Fans will still have the opportunity to witness the final on-screen performances that Lee took part in with cameos in both Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, and though the world lost a legend following Stan Lee's passing, fans will no doubt remember the impact he left on so many people's lives.
